just got this email from my former History proff at the UofA, I'm still laughing becouse its true!


Here's a new twist on the firearms issue.
Doctors:
1 The number of doctors in Canada is 700,000
2. Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000
3. Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14%

Guns:
1. The number of guns owned in Canada is 80,000,000 (yes that's 80
Million)
2. The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500
3. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875%

So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous
Than gun owners.
Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE
DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors Before this gets completely out of hand!!!

It's humorous but far from the truth. There is no way there are 700,000 doctors in Canada nor are there 80,000,000 guns. 120,000 accidental deaths caused by physicians!! No way...that's 328 per day This appears to be a substitute Canada for USA without changing the numbers lol.

the numbers are completely wrong.

Estimates of guns in Canada range from 7-11million (Gary Breitkreuz' web site)
and there are around 60,000 licensed physicians for starters.

If my GP killed 17.14% of his patients, there'd be at least one or two corpses for me to step over in the waiting room when I go in for an afternoon appointment. I like the general concept of the joke, but I have to disagree with spreading around bunk statistics; we do ourselves a disservice when such inaccuracies are put out there. The anti's put out enough biased "information" as it is, we don't need to stoop to their level to make our point.

yes its funny, but sad that so many people take these sorts of emails as truths, it is amazing how many do.

oh and since we are debunking the statistics in it: in Canada its not the Canadian Dept of Health & Human Services its just called Health Canada.

And a large number of those doctors own guns as well. I wonder if that is reflected in the accident statistics.?
