Default Nordegg Area Trout Ponds

I am heading out to Nordegg next weekend to do some fishing, hiking and climbing! I want to do some flyfishing at either Shunda Lake or Goldeye Lake or any other open stocked pond! Does anyone here have any recommendations for flies/techniques?? Thanks in advance!

Not a lot of room for a back cast. When I was fishing those ponds, the trout would avoid any movement on the bank, staying 30-40 yards out. I didn't bother with the fly rod for long. Small jig/gulp under a slip float. They are tasty from those cold waters.

If you are set on flyfishing I would take a tube or pontoon and fish balanced leaches and buggers real slow.

there are a couple of small pothole lakes in the area that are much better suited to flyfishing from shore then the bigger lakes.
about 1 - 3k north of Nordegg on the FTR there are 2 small lakes on the side of the road that are stocked with RB's. can't miss them.
also just before Nordegg on Hwy 11 is Harlech Pond on the side of the hwy. pretty decent fishing also for stockers. these lakes would be a lot easier flyfishing from shore.

on Fish/Shunda lake, about the only real good place to flyfish from shore is at the north end by the outlet. if the dock is in you can fish off it other wise the shore is more open at that end.

good luck
Mike
