I personally don't think you can get high enough with whitetails and if the conditions will allow I'm usually in the 20-35 foot rang....However, a few of my stands are in the 15ft range and they produce equally as well. Go figure.

I aggree wtih Hannie. You can't be too high but make sure you practice and few shots in close (< 15yards) ... they can get trickier.

It depends on what kind of cover/forest you are in as well. I always hang mine 20ft- 30 ft. I'm never below 20ft.

depends on the terrain and the tree. Need to get in the air to get the scent away and visual presence hidden.

I'm usually around 18 - 20 ft. You get any higher and the kill zone into the vitals starts to shrink pretty rapidly.

I took my biggest whitetail from a stand hung @ 10' and if you get technical about it, it was less than that since the tree was in a steep draw. IBEP recommends stand heights of no more than 15'.

My 'lucky' stand is at just over 30'. It is at the bottem of a steep aspen slope. The top of the slope gives me a 50 yard horizontal opportunity. The buck I took out of it last year was about 30 yards away and 15' below me.

Like someone mentioned, so much depends on the setup. Good luck!

More important than height is what will your backing be. Never skyline yourself. Make sure there is some form of cover directly behind you. Usually the higher you go the more you stick out like a sore thumb, especially in poplar. Spruce is more forgiving.
Once deer have seen you in a tree they will remember it. Instead of picking a good trail to set up on if the trees are not right, pick a good tree with good backing even if it is off the trail a bit and hope for the best. Cuz once you 've educated the deer it's basically over, especially for mature bucks.

I think thats a little too high for my likings. We hang all our stands about 6-10 ft. But there is lots of background cover to break up your silhouette, also we're usually 20' from the trails back in the bush and cut shooting lanes. Seems to work out ok for us!
