Default outboard winter storage

Quick question.

I tried to put the 4 stroke outboard away for storage.

-I drained and filled the leg oil with fresh
-I sprayed a healthy dose of fogging spray into each cylinder and cranked a couple times

Now I also drained the engine oil. I was going to fill up with fresh oil and change the oil filter, but the yahoo's at the shop sent the wrong filter and can't get the right one in stock.

So I put the old filter back on and the drain plug back in. The motor has been sitting in my garage like this for 2 weeks now. No oil, but filter and plug back in. I'm waiting on another filter to arrive.

Is there any worry about leaving the motor like this until I get the right filter hopefully this week? It should have been here last week

Everything in the bottom end has a nice film of oil on it. Engines get stored for months, or even years with no oil in the sump. You'll be fine.

I have a question. Why do people tape plastic or bags over the prop for storage? And is it needed?

The drain plug for the leg on my outboard is behind the prop. I usually drain the leg before storage and leave the prop off till spring. I cover the splined shaft with a plastic bag to keep the shaft clean.

I have the same problem getting the proper filter, I bring in the old part number.

You should be able to refill the oil, it will just run down to the bottom of the crankcase. You don't want to chance forgetting to put oil back in later (say next spring) or whenever the filter finally arrives. The oil only circulates through the filter is when the engine is running. With everything else you've done should be good to go.
