Default Moose seemed quiet

We went up north at the end of September/early October for my son's bull moose draw and mother nature kicked us to the curb.. Snow, cooler temps, 6 days of fog and poor visibility, no visual on any animals, but lots of wolf tracks and even a mom griz with 2 cubs.. While we were calling, it was cricket chirping quiet in the bush... Wound up getting skunked, well except one mamma wolf that didn't make it home...

Ouch. If it makes you feel any better you were not alone in having Mother Nature screw up your hunt.
It was pouring rain for the start of a lot of seasons in BC, and AB, and stayed around long enough to really spoil most hunters plans.
What is even worse, is what it did for the grain harvests.

I have seen more moose this year than the past 3 combined.

But don't ask about whitetails here....

Hunting weather conditions are a big part of moose hunt success. If you have few inches of soft snow, slight breeze, during rut things are stacked in your favor.

That's what we hoped, but seeing all the wolf tracks and the couple of griz we kinda figured maybe they've moved out of that particular part of the area to another, safer location..

Glen, when you are seeing lots of wolf and grizz tracks the real problem is they ate the moose and their calves. Wolves hunt 365 days a year, grizz hunts 9-10 months a year.

That's kinda what we had talked about.. That and them moving off to safer grounds before they make the dinner plate.. Hopefully somethin or someone does some wolf hunting in the area before next year...

We had nothing but wolves as well. We got 1 bull down the first day but that was it...never seen or heard any cows or bulls-they stayed quiet. Best cold weather we have seen in over 10 years for camp.

We made a day trip yesterday.....wolf howls in the first block, wolves exactly where I said we heard them-seen the fresh tracks. Heard the wolves thru the entire day. Some bull tracks in the snow along in the old block edges. Oh well, 1 more weekend if the guys can do another day trip.

Bring on the COW Elk next-Nov.1st . 5 of my buddies plus me have cow elk tags. No concentrating on a whitetail buck first this year like last time I was drawn. Get the elk down to have meat in the freezer first.

Just got my oldest boy's hockey league schedule yesterday. BUSY BUSY . Looks like no weekends off till the new year...some 3 game weekend road trips..ALL GOOD -we enjoy it. My youngest doesn't have his schedule yet but like every other hockey parent, we will have a busy winter

Might need to take days of mid-week
