Default Lethbridge

Have to be in Lethbridge soon.
Are there are decent buffets that a group of kids 8-15 years wont turn their noses up at?
Please understand this is a group of swimmers who will be competing and will be STARVING and need to eat after having worked hard at their competition.

Our group alone is 40 kids plus adults coming down and other teams are coming to take over lethbridge soon too.

Botanica Resaurant at the Leth Lodge Hotel on Scenic Drive has had a decent evening buffet, hot items, salads, and desserts. The Sandman has taken over the hotel though so not sure if this is still available. Other than that, some Chinese buffets as already mentioned or there is a couple sushi places that have all you can eat. Mikasu is one, it's on Mayor Magrath Drive, nothing special but its ok IMO.

I doubt sushi will fly with 95%
We arrive on a Friday leave on a Sunday
Wish they would do provincials here but no it's always either Lethbridge or Edmonton .

Only concern with Chinese is msg and how many would have issues guess I will have to talk to moms and figure it out. Hope Lethbridge is ready for us all

Are you looking for a breakfast type buffet? Or a linch/dinner type buffet?

And on what day? Sat and Sundays especially are quite easy for breakfast buffets. Most larger hotels with convention facilities will have them. Afternoon/evening and Mid week buffets are harder to find.

Lethbridge Lodge

Paradise Canyon

Ricks Grill

With that large of a group it wouldn't hurt to call ahead and see what they can do to help accommodate you. Maybe even some price breaks, etc.

I know we plan on checking out the BBQ place close to where we are staying.
Hopefully it is half decent.
The kids plan on hotel hopping and doing training after their done their competition each day.
Hopefully they will also get some REST.

They are getting ramped up.
Training is hitting high gear now. Extra practices.

This is the highest level he can compete in until he gets his Bronze Medallion...... and right now he has a few years before he can do that....too young.
He has to make Personal bests on every event.....that is his goal.
If he medals...... he will be over the moon, but he is going up against kids that train 7 days a week.

Lethbridge isn't a town exactly known for our cuisine.

If you want to see a huge feedlot I can point you in the right direction however.

If the competition is at the University, count on having to drive a long ways to find restaurants for sit down eating . Personally I would probably just eat at the food court at the University (check the times they have strange hours) or at the lodge to avoid any brain damage of trying to navigate the South Side as an out of towner.

If you sure of this then I invite you to come sit downwind of me after I eat some.

I can eat a foods that contain natural glutamate without issue and I can eat a little bit of MSG, like say 5 Doritos. Too much though and it's headache -> cramps -> omg I think I just crapped out a bit of my lung. I don't know why but I know a few others with the same issue.

If you're talking about the Smokehouse, I've had better... I've found that a lot of the food is overcooked till its dry.

You're staying in a hotel on mayor magrath??

If they like lamb, I can point you in the right direction... DISCLAIMER: They will have to kill the lamb first...

No problem for you, right?? haha

^^^^Terrible advice. Lethbridge is very easy to navigate and both the U of L food court and Lodge are marginal. Tons of great eats in Lethbridge. Might want to hit 2 Guys Pizza (as seen on Gotta Eat Here), Piggyback Poutinery, Luigis Pizza (they have private rooms where you can make your own buffet) , Cafe Verde, El Comal, State & Main, Firestone, and/or Fusion for good food. Jusy an fyi, the hotels along Mayor Magrath are generally terrible except for the Holiday Inn Express at the end of Mayor Magrath. A better bet would be the newer hotels on 43rd street.

Lived here since 1985 and have never been! My wife used to go all the time, but I heard its gone downhill. Can't speak from experience, just hearsay. Lighthouse on 3rd ave is excellent for sushi though.

Considering how many are coming to town try finding a hotel?.... That main strip is where we ended up.
This year the juniors and seniors have provincials at same time.
I'm only timing juniors while my son competes. I refuse to sit on deck for 14+ hrs a day

So competition is this weekend.

There are 18 registered in the same category as Stinky (including him)
We are facing long days.
Based on previously posted times on all racers he should place in the top 10. He has raced most of these guys before and beat them in November placing in the top 3 in each race.
So he has high hopes for this competition but there are a few guys coming he hasnt faced.

If your in the lethbridge area and are curious about what is happening you can check it out at the Max bell pool it starts at 8am both saturday and sunday.

Life of a swimming parent is not easy, I can relate. My daughter is a SR ( 17 ) and been racing for years. It's a great sport and huge commitment for both the swimmer and the parent. I have sat in hot muggy pools for 12 + hours to see her swim like 5 minutes. LOL
It's an expensive sport, this weekend she flew to Sakatoon and a couple of weeks ago it was Winnipeg.
Some of the things you get to look forward to FM. Enjoy and good luck to your swimmers.

He's competing in life guarding at this point. So 7 events to learn. I don't sit up top with the other parents, did that once. Got wise and volunteer as an official so I'm down on deck there with the swimmers. Getting splashed all day cooling off it means we can encourage them and give them a moral boost.

I cheer for every swimmer no netter what team they are on. By the end of the weekend I have no voice left. When I have my home team in my lane they get extra cheering.

Still find this less expensive than many sports. But then we just started buying fins, boys bathing suits aren't as bad as girls now if only goggles would last
