Canada Border Services Agency Seizing One-Handed Opening Pocket Knives
http://knifenews.com/canada-border-s...pocket-knives/
There’s a point at the end of the article that asks the question if police services will now see these folding knives as prohibited weapons.
Seriously??

Because a 7" KABAR is so much safer.
This is where things are heading, ladies and gentlemen. Justin Trudeau would undoubtedly approve of this. Seeing as he encourages governmental departments making their own interpretations of the law, as well as arbitrarily creating new laws.

Nothing surprises me anymore. Many are already criminals for possessing scary 25 round 10/22 magazines. At least they reversed the simple green / CZ 858 decision.
Hopefully this asinine knife decision will also be reversed.

What is ironic about the 25 rd 10/22 mags is that you can legally get 25 rd mags for 22 wmr, a more powerful caliber. Our laws do not make sense.

Isn’t it because the ruger pistol uses the same mag?

That was my interpretation of the law. I wasn't sure which gun, but I was sure that barring the 10/22 25 round banana clip was due to a handgun now accepting it. Rather than ban the handgun...

Ruger made the .22 charger pistol in 2008, the Charger pistol is just the latest in a long list of pistols that have resulted in magazine restrictions in Canada.
The 25 round butler creek magazines that fit the 10/22 rifles came out in 1994, long before the charger pistol came on the scene.

The most troubling thing, is that if law enforcement use the same ruling and apply it, it make having a folding pocket knife with you a prohibited weapon.
We could be criminals for having a lock back knife with us.

Cutting steak, opening envelopes, opening boxes, packing tape, if they take away my Onion Chive 3" because it is 'prohibited' all firearms will be next

What bugs me is that these arbitrary decisions are being made by unelected government employees on their own whims. My question to them would be what 'problem' is the decision in response to? There does not seem to be an epidemic of knifings, at least out of proportion to the historical average. I would also wager good money that the majority of stabbings occur with standard fixed blade kitchen knives in domestic disputes.
If one were to continue with their underhanded interpretation then they could also prohibit folding knives that take replaceable razor blades such as the ones from DeWalt and Milwaukee. The warehouses and construction sites will be so much more safe

FWIW many job sites are already banning snap off blades. Too unsafe, apparently.

I was referring to the folding razor knives that have the blades that can be reversed 180 degrees for the 'second edge' rather than the snap-off blades. Never saw a snap off blade razor knife that also folded. That being said; with a snap-off type razor knife suck as an Olfa, once that thumbscrew is loose those could also open through centrifugal force too. Good luck with that CBSA! If the rules no good for that it's no good in any other matter either.
With the snap-off blades it's nice that little containers for the broken off blades are available, those were the most dangerous thing about them, hiding out waiting to cut you.

If you came back into Canada with such a knife that you acquired in Canada CSBA cannot confiscate it. You will require to go to a Canadian border services agent before crossing the border and have them list the knife on a wallet sized card called a Y-38, Identification of Articles for Temporary Exportation. This card can be used for any/all valuable items that you are taking across the border and will be returning with.

I hear you but other agencies may not.
The police and CATSA (airport security) are different.
The CATSA folks do not have a lot of patience and their mandate is pretty clear.
As for CATSA and you are traveling by air and carrying a knife such as yours, they will give you 3 options:
1. turn around and go mail it back to yourself.
2. Voluntarily forfeit it into the bin provided at the gate. This usually happens because the traveler doesn't care or they are running short of time and unable to get to the post office and back to meet their flight.
3. Turn around and go home as you can not proceed any further.
Remember to store it in your check-in luggage if you have to have it with you....

He is not breaking the law. This is strictly CBSA acting on CITT ruling to prohibit importation
