Default Question about accompanying a trapper for a day

Can a guy with no trapping papers/license/experience go with a trapper for the day just to see what it's all about?

Yep, you sure can. As long as he's there with you

You would need more than a day to see what trapping is all about.
It would be best if you went out with a trapper pre-season for a day or two. Lots of preps. In season setting traps is another day. Checking the traps is another day too. And skinning and pelting is another day in itself.

Great experience if you get the opportunity.

No so long ago there was a working vacations available where a FN family would let you accompany on their northern trapline for a month, living and trapping traditionally. They may still be doing this. The cost was 1600 bucks 20 years ago.

There are outfitter/guides with northern traplines that offer one week trapline adventure trips for large money too.

Lol, thanks but I know several trappers who I am sure would take me along if I asked.

Default Accompanying trapper

Had this exact experience happen to me. F&W officer checked me on my resident line. I was told that the person with me could be charged with trespassing unless he had written permission from the land owner to be on the property. If he was assisting me in any way with the trapping he would need a licence and a permission to trap form signed by the landowner.

I used to love to take folks out trapping for a day, I think a lot of trappers do. Maybe because it is so nice to have company for a day after spending weeks alone.

If I were still trapping I'd invite you to tag along with me for a day or several.
But alas, my health prevents me from doing trapping as it should be done.

Default 2-3 days with trapper

I'm interested in spending a few days with a trapper. Any thoughts on who I could connect with? Certainly prepared to pay a premium to do this!
