Default Pike photo contest thread (post pics here)

Ok boys and girls let’s get this started

Read the rules before posting

1) This photo contest will run from July 1 2021 to October 1 2021

2) All pike must be caught between July 1 2021 and October 1 2021

3) Max 5 photo entries

4) Pike maybe be caught in any province

5) follow the fishing regs in your area

6) Pike must be caught by the person entering the photo. If you have to get someone to post your photo for you that is ok. I suck with computers I completely understand lol

This is a photo contest so it’s not about size and numbers of pike. These photos should be done in a manner to show appreciation for pike so display them in a respectful manner. This doesn’t need to be a hero shot with the angler or even show the whole pike. Creativity and good fish handling will play a part in judging. This is not about the biggest pike caught a creative quality photo of a small pike will trump a bloody giant laying on the bottom of the boat

I will send 4 of the pike lures I make at no cost to the best photo entry at the end of the contest

Everyone play fair and keep it enjoyable. I do encourage letting the big girls go whenever possible and recommend taking smaller fish if you choose to keep one. Respect our fisheries so we can continue to enjoy them in the future

Now go fishing already

Good to see the ball has started rolling

I may have to drag the kayak out for some morning fishing before it gets too hot

Did some testing on the adjustments to my tail spin design and yup she’s good. Absolutely deadly 2hrs of the fastest pace pike fishing I can remember till a big girl finally showed up and broke my wire leader. Completely lost count of the number of 60-70cm pike caught. Knocked my pliers off the kayak after catching two on the soft tail jerk bait

Some pics so you guys can see the lures I am putting up catch pike

Tip of the day for everyone even if the fishing is hot take the time to check your leader

Good to see some more entries roll in

The jerk bait and tail spin have been well tested with good results so I just need to build two for the contest. Wife says I should provide one here fav crankbaits a 4 1/2 inch moderate diver. The last lure I have not decided yet but I do have a few new designs in my head that I have to bring to life.

When I complete a lure for the contest I will post a pic of it

So my friend and I hit the river for some relaxation and fun, he started off by catching a mooneye, a decent walleye, and then the calm came... it was eerie, all seemed quiet, I was reeling in quickly thinking maybe it is time to move to someplace else when it happened...

The water exploded, the roar broke the silence the water broke the stillness that was in the air and the fight with the monster of the river began. I shouted to my friend "get the net, I need the net", which caused him to drop his rod, grab the net and come running, he could tell by the look on my face that something out of the normal was going on. I reeled quickly, the beast was coming right towards us, it was like he planned a head long attack, he was moving so quickly towards me you would swear my rod was almost straight...

It was so quick, my friend was still a ways off with the net, so I decided to risk it, I figured he was coming right at me, if I timed it right and quick snap of my wrist, and upward pull on the rod... if all went right... I might get him up on the shore... I took the chance and success! the beast was mine!

I don’t think there is a limit to the size of lure a pike will eat

Some nice pike people keep it going

LUNKDAWGEH I like the the angle you chose for pic

So what colors are you guys into for pike lures because I am going to start on some of the contest lures in the next few days? Personally I am partial to white and chartreuse so I lean to patterns that favor these colors

I have decided for one design I will be starting from scratch and creat something new. I have 3 different thoughts in mind a dive and rise jerk bait, another soft tail glider/jerk but larger with more of a pike shape, and a lipless believerish/minnow bait. This will be a larger lure thinking 6 1/2 to 8 inch without the tail

Before there's comments on the gloves, I couldn't safely hold the fish without them because of how slimy it was.

I always thought a black with chartreuse or bright green with perhaps some white highlights could be pretty cool. But I like weird colors and things. But soft tail and or lipless minnow baits are damn awesome done almost color.... but now I think i might have to use my crap skills to make one in the colors i said

I have painted lures those colors and caught fish on them. Green/white can be good for pike and lake trout

The lipless bait I am thinking is probably a little different then most envision. This is a sketch of a concept I am considering. This is the hard section and I would add a large wide curly tail

This is not set in stone just one of the many designs I have floating around in my head

That looks interesting, does having its nose with that downward point give it a slow dive?

There is a lot I can do to vary the dive depth and wiggle on that design. Think believer meets salmon plug for action at least that would be the goal. The nose would be con-caved slightly as well. Thinking a deeper running lure

I have a lot of tricks with weighting, buoyancy, body shape and catch points that I apply to my designs to accomplish different things. Over the years I have figured out a lot of things screwing lures up learning lol

Ok first person to post picks which one becomes a prize for the contest

Here are the two jerk baits I have painted to choose from. They still need clear coat and tails
