Center fire rifle scope on a .22LR

Is the 100 yard parrelex (spelling) really noticeable when one of those scope are placed on a .22. It’s actually hard to find a good scope with a 50 yard parrelex ( again spelling) Does it really make a difference?

We ran a VX1 on a 10/22 for a few years no problem. 3000 gophers can’t be wrong.

I took the scopes off of my Savage Axis rifles (they aren't very good for long range) and put one on my Ruger .22 and it works great.

I always buy the package scopes used off the buy and sell to stick on 22s. They don't stand up to centerfire recoil but they're a nice cheap option on a rimfire

There are "rimfire-specific" scopes with 50 yard parallax settings (Vortex, Leupold, Bushnell..probably others) but personally, for rimfires, I use scopes with adjustable objectives that can focus up close if/when req. I'd have no hesitation using a "Centerfire" scope either but again, I'd want it with AO or side focus provided the latter could work at distances less than 50 yards.

On the first 22 I ever owned, I did (unknowingly) use a "centerfire" 3-9X scope and realized (trial and error) that it just seemed to work better when dialed-down to 3X-4X. lol Looking back now, I think the parallax issues were just less noticeable at lower magnifications.

So yes, they CAN work...but really aren't the best tools for the job.

Ya I bought a new Bushnell Elite 3x9x40 and i can get the reticle clear but at 25 yards the tack target is a bit blurry and I cant get it out with eye focus so that may be because its an indoor range and the light is iffy or its just too close to me. It’s a shame because the elite is worth more than any rimfire scope i looked at. I did buy a rimfire specific scope (Nikon ProStaff)but i think it will go on a savage mark II im doing a pillar and glass bed job on right now. May be looking for a trade or sale of the Bushnell,,,,,,

I have the Vortex Crossfire II 2-7X32 Rim fire. It is an excellent .22 rifle scope that has a parallax setting of 50 yards!

I have seen them at Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops before.

I don't use rimfire specific scopes on any of my rifles, but the scopes on my rimfires all have adjustable parallax. If you use low powered scopes, parallax is usually not an issue.

I use a Leupold VX I 2-7 in my 77/22 & I find it works great. Zeroed it at 50 yrds.

You need to pay attention when purchasing an AO scope for Rimfire use with best results always with those capable of focus under 50M.

If you have constant cheek weld, it doesn't make a difference. If you want to check, put your gun in a stand and look at a target. Move your head around and see how much it moves. It definitely will but if you are consistent with your cheek weld, then you will not have a problem.

I don't have much experience with a centerfire scope on a .22 but I had a older 2x Leupold m8 on my 452 in the beginning and it shot like this at 50m




I've never felt the urge to over scope a rifle. I don't need to see the rings of Saturn through it plus I feel they wreck the balance. Now my CZ wears a 4x28 Leupold rimfire scope and I find it a perfect fit for a .22

A good friend was taking advantage of todays fair weather and his trip to the range included my 77/22 Mag Ruger that I recently mounted a Leuplod Vari X 2 with 4-12 magnification and an adjustable parallax feature. Wish I could have gone with him but am still battling this damned flu bug. Long story short was that it turned out to be a grand combination for precise focus at the 100 yard mark, which is what I wanted. Thanks Ian. All the best to AO members in 2018, D.H.

I've never had anything but fine shooting with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 on my Ruger 10/22...with the Volquartsen trigger on it I'm comfy shooting sod rats out to 100, sometimes 125 yards.

I have a old fixed 4x weaver on my Winchester 9422M. I can hit small spinner plates at 100 yards no problem.

Any scope with a removable objective ring can be reset parallax free at any range you want. Just turn the objective lens.Takes five minutes. Leopold will also do this on their scopes.

Dug out my notes to find this 'maximum parallax error' formula that I came across on the rimfire central site. It shows the maximum error you could have when shooting at various distances with a scope with a fixed parallax adjustment. If you are really consistent with keeping your eye centered in the eyepiece, you will have no error. Included a few examples using a 100m parallax.

On my volquartsen 10/22 I have a weaver rimfire classic. Great little scope. Nikon’s prostaff bdc 150 is another good rimfire scope. On my gopher 22 I have a leupold 2-7x33 rimfire fine duplex. This is a very nice scope.
