Default painting your bow.....

Hey guys. I'm thinking about painting my bow..... is this a sin??

I'm wanting to paint it black. ( got it in a trade so couldn't be too picky on color).

Have any of you done this? What works best. I was thinking plastidip so that worse case you can remove it.

Default Bow

If it's a working bow theres no sin in painting it, I've heard that krylon works well. One thing though is it's harder to see cracks in your laminations etc.

LOl...brings back memories...ironically most every bow availible in the 70's and early 80's were black or silver [why silver I still havent figued out]
anyway everyone custom painted theirs bows camo ...some real works of art...
I remember using mosquitoe repellant on hands and all the paint coming off and getting on everything...

Best would be to tear bow down and use a quaility flat black paint ...one that impervious to chemicals like mosquitoe repellant, WD-40 etc...

Watch for tolerances on axles, cams, limb pockets etc...thick paint can cause issues...

plastic dip is thick and why remove it anyway once done...

Can be a fun project...

I had friend paint my wife's bow for her this summer. We sandblasted and used automotive paint with a clear coat. Supplies were about $25 and a couple hours time. Bow looks great and performing very well.

Pending on what or how much you are dipping...
Just limbs and riser..you tear down... Approx 200.00 or less ...

Not worth it for some...priceless for others!!

Neil brings back old memories We used to paint bows get leaves grass etc to spray silouettes on limbs etc First bow I painted was a Cupid 4 wheeler. I think 95% Deet mosquito repellant had to be the worst on finishes. Had it on my face which got transferred to my old cheese cloth style head net. All went in bow case and next time opened I had a head net pattern melted into grip!! Those were the days

So I've been hearing that the Krylon Duracoat works pretty good.... would anyone know where i can order some, buy some?

I've also seen it in an aerosol can... wonder how good it is... would work best for me as i don't have a paint sprayer.
