"PM me for more information" makes sense. No point trying to guess the particular information they may need.

"I sent you a PM" is totally pointless. If they are logged in they already know you PM'ed them.

I have no problem with members giving some people they have conversed with for a long time and trust info and not others. Some of you may not like me. I don't expect you to do anything for me beyond being civil, and I should of course reciprocate.

Yes, if it is just to one person. But you might say "pm me for more info" to a group (say guys going on a trip) or to everyone.

Because you might not know what info they want, what their questions are. If I am the poster I will post the info I think relevant, but then add "PM me if you want more info". I can't guess what everyone's questions are, so what would I pm them?

For the most part I believe the PM function is situational specific. If I am trying to organize a fishing trip with a couple people some of which may be new, I would do it on pm. The board does not want to hear me talk about what Kokanee9 is going to pack for lunch or if hes going to be stopping by canadian tire on the way.

Saying PM sent always striked me as weird too. Other than trying to reserve pecking order on a sale or something. It's like calling dibbs. outside of that I have no idea.

No. Say if you give out info to someone but unsure if you answered their question or anyone elses in enough detail. you say PM me for more info and that way ANYONE reading the thread who may have a detailed / specific question can pm you about it. it also makes the social interaction personal. I feel alot better having discussions one on one with a person rather than in a group sometimes. It established a connection between the 2 people in conversation. As I said its situational, sometimes it is easier to explain things one on one to a person rather than in public. It opens the door to someone who may feel that their question is stupid and do not want to get ridiculed publicly for asking said question. Also stating that "if you need more info, PM me" also opens up pathways by telling the person you want to help them. It's like telling your best friend that if they need to talk, they can call you..... comforting reassurance that you can trust the person/ you want to help the person

If the information was given in a thread why can't the questions and answers be given in the thread why must everything be so secret If you want a personal social interaction there is face book ,Twitter, etc. This is a forum to help and receive from other outdoorsmen its not a secret click or club

Unless your asking what color underwear someone is wearing there's no reason to be scared.

Had a friend from Saskatchewan, hope that's not racist, He would come back from a fishing holiday and say they caught no pike because the pike lose all there teeth in summer so for 4 or 5 weeks they won't bite.
so if you've ever been swimming in a pike lake and noticed the white bottoms, either someone has lost their trunks or he was correct.

He was quite a hunter as well. One day while I was glassing a high basin full of willow, he informed me it was a total waste of time as any fool knows that elk will not go into willows. So like a fool I asked why. 'Cause when they try to eat the grass, they poke there eyes out on the willow stubs that the moose left when they were browsing. And here I thought those were wild crabapples sticking on the willows when all along they were elk eyes. I need better binos.
Maybe I should start a society for saving the blind elk.

I see what you are up to here secret agent Chubb. all this questioning about PM and secrets. You are trying to find the hidden agenda.

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet... Reason some people post PM sent is because there are forums that don't auto alert members of PMs(and also people that shut off auto alerts) and as such often miss PMs. Pm sent is a reminder for the person to check their PMs.

Asking for someone to send a PM for more info etc limits the amount of people receiving said info. The info doesn't become public and only a handful of other people may ask for the same info. I think you may be surprised how many people just don't bother asking even though they may be slightly interested or because they don't want to bother registering.
