Default Thorns

Where I hunt is thornier than one of my ex girlfriends, can anyone recommend some good hunting pants for this kind of area. One thorn in the balls is too much for this guy. Thanks!

I use chaps rather than special hunting pants, as they are more versatile in different temperatures. I have a few different sets, some lined some unlined, and they also help to keep your legs from getting wet from the wet grass. I use my Browning more often than any of the others.

If your worried about your nuts chaps won't help you to much. Look at Filson double tin pants. I keep hearing good things about the Duluth fire hose pants, but can't speak for personal experience.

A fine member ( cat in the hat) shared that filson makes chaps. I survey in the northern bush everyday and picking thorns out of the knees is a daily thing. Carharts and wrangler work gear buck thorns good but you will be hot in the summer.

Depends on what kind of country you are in, but I find gaiters keep the rose bushes out pretty good. They don't help when you end up trapped in a patch of chest high devil's club, but for walking down game trails and what-not, I think they keep out about 90% of the thorns. Also, they keep the crap out of your boots and protect your laces.

But, you need to get the tall ones that come up to under the knee.

If you get pants so thick or so stiff that they protect your groin from thorns, they aren't going to be comfortable to walk in. Chaps will be much easier to walk in, and much cooler. Most upland pants only have heavy panels on the legs to protect against thorns, and the groin area is just regular material so it is more flexible for walking.

I've been walking through thorny vegetation for 5 years in the same Carhartt coveralls and jacket. The clothing is almost indestructible and worth every cent.

I went a checked trail cams today. Got some thorns in my knees but luckily not in the nads again. Hopefully they'll die soon for the most part. I'm gonna go with gaiters and hope for the best. And dam all I get are moose when I'm looking for mulies lol
