Elk Farm
Hi
Does anyone know if there is an elk farm on highway 66/22 - east of 762 22 junction? I've seen a herd of elk there a few times and there is high fencing but I've googled and can't find any farms in that area...

There is, but I wouldn't say its just east of 762, I think its a bit closer to Priddis. There is high fencing there, so probably referring to the same place (you can see it from Hwy 22, south of the hwy).

Thanks markmac. That sounds like the place - there is high fencing there. I thought it was too good to be true they would be wild. Its strange its not listed under the elk farms when doing a google search.

I hunt an area with an old elk farm that is no longer doing elk. There is lots of wild elk in side and moose. they jump in and out no problem. watched them do it a few times the elk anyway never seen the moose jump. Even called a bull in that jumped over never got him but was cool to watch. Only time I can see them get stuck is if they have calfs inside. I wouldn't hunt inside and not sure you would be allowed.

are you talking about the place on the north side of the highway between Okotoks and Millarville? If so, that's Sinclair-Smith. They used to run buffalo. They guide/outfit

Do wild elk hang around near elk farms? I always wondered if they would because of the sounds and smells.

Guy shot a nice five pointer down the road from me, after he chased him away from the fence.

Well that's pretty close to the "Elk Sanctuary" that is Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
Maybe they leave there occasionally just to taunt hunters as they drive by. LOL

I sat at a goose shoot one year and watched a bull trying to pick up all the chicks on the inside of the fence. It was hilarious, he was upset he couldn't get in to all of the ladies. Watched him do the same thing the night before while scouting the birds. He wanted in so bad I kinda wondered if he was an escapee! At the end of our shoot we watched him almost get him by a truck as he was headed back to his hideout. Birds didn't cooperate, but a great hunt regardless!!!
