Last Minute Buck 2017 Season
After many miles walked and stalked this season and a number of young animals left to live, I entered my final opportunity to hunt with no tags filled. 2 miles of still hunting this morning did not produce any sightings of movement other than a cow moose of which I did not have a tag for. With temperatures soaring to 7 C, I was not feeling very good about my chances in the evening. I decided to set up a blind in a well used transition area from dense forest to clearing. With Legal light expiring at 5:00 Pm, imagine my shock and awe when this Buck appeared at 4:56 Pm. I had not seen him since opening day and thought he would have been harvested with all of the traffic (legal and Illegal) in this area over the last 27 days. He followed the treeline out of the dense forest to a fence line. Without hesitation he jumped the fence and stopped, noticing some does out in the clearing. I had a small window through the aspen as he gave me a 30 degree angle on his broadside. I lined it up and pulled the trigger at 240 yards before he had the chance to move. He jolted and ran towards me cutting another 130 yards off the distance. He stopped and wavered and I placed a second shot that ended it. I respect the life I have taken and my family will utilize all of this gift. I hope this quality animal had the chance to share his genetics over the rut. Here is hoping for last minute miracles for you on the last day of the regular big game season. All the best.

Congrats!
I filled my WT tag today too, saw more deer in a day than ever when I was hunting them. Had a group of does (legal there) in my sight but wasn't sure if they were WT till it was too late. And, while I was still kicking myself for messing up a perfect opportunity on a last day, I noticed him following in their steps few minutes later, since I already knew where he goes I caught him through a small clearing - what a beautiful day, just sheer luck on the last day. Even 3 hours dragging him out of the woods doesn't seem too bad now
