Since last fall I've been using first lite, great product as well.

What blows my mind, there's still hunters financing the antis by buying MEC stuff.
I've been a member of mec since they operated out of a trailer parked down by the bow river,1993 I think. So I guess you could say I'm a loyal customer. Theyve gone thru lots of changes over the years. I keep reading on this site how they're anti hunting, but they do backcountry supplys really well, and they often have a wide range of price points, so can be a better option for guys on a budget. But all this anti hunting talk got me wondering....
I CALLED THEIR HEAD OFFICE. THEY HAVE NO STANCE ON HUNTING EITHER WAY!
Thid keeps comimg up on this site, but has anyone bothered to clarify their position on hunting?

Mec does backcountry gear really well. Thats why people shop there.

Default kudu and ice breaker!

Maybe not budget friendly...but if you price it out over the amount of use and durability, I think it comes pretty close, there are some things in life where you really do get what you pay for...Ice Breaker and Kuiu stuff is legit! Super comfortable, and performs very well (I think if you compare labels with some of the costco or cabella's stuff you'll see where some of the differences are...).

I had an $85.00 merino top back in the day...lasted at least 8 years (still use it for camping and cutting wood etc)...that's good value in my book.

If you are law enforcement/medic/fire/or outdoor professional you can look into "Experticity"...basically pro deals on a bunch of stuff. A lot of it is useless/or not available to Canadians, but Ice Breaker is on there and it all ships from Vancouver, so no duty and you have it in 2 days! Pretty much 30-50% off...makes it a no brainer!

Just my 2 cents....

I've had good luck finding great prices for Icebreaker base layers here:

MEC.CA is where I get mine.

Great sizes, excellent return policy if needed and priced fair.

CrossIron mills has one of these stores. Found most of there kit rather welfare and overpriced as it is.

They do have a 30 day return though ....with a few hoops to jump through.

I have to agree. I do have a few products from mountain warehouse and while they look decent the quality tends to be significantly less. I have sleeping bags and a couple jackets that the stitching is terrible and falling apart on after not a whole lot of use.

Backcountry.com often has big sales going on merino stuff, lots of other gear too.
