Hunting Clothes / camo

Anyone who served in the Canadian Forces when uniforms were O.D. green instead of paint by numbers will tell you that you don't need a fancy pattern for concealment. Convincing people they need multiple sets of clothing with multiple patterns to hunt is a great marketing technique.

Either way, you don't have to wear camo. Does it make a difference on a hunt? Maybe. If you are not moving, probably not. If you are walking, I believe that camo helps. Whether I am right or not doesn't make a difference as I will continue to use the extent of my already purchased hunting raiment.

Here's me last year with my "Sheep Camo" lol

Walmart hoodie and a cheap pair (but really comfy) pants, bright blue gators and my full curl ram.

Wear it or not, strictly your choice, and I have no interest in trying to convince non-believers. I have been hunting since the days you had to wear red or blaze for big game. Shot lots of game while I was wearing a Blaze or Red jacket. Other people can also see you real well, which is why it surprises me how many people in Blaze used to get shot or shot at. Wearing camo, other hunters can't see me. Was shot at wearing blaze a couple of times. Never been shot at wearing camo.

If you are in a blind or still against some bush or Willow, you can wear pretty much anything you want. Slowly still hunting into the wind, a pattern that breaks up your shape helps.

Try laying out in a goose field in blue jeans and a yellow hoodie and see how many Geese come into your decoys. Now crawl into your layout camo blind and see the results.

Most game has eye sight about the same as a Human. If you can't see the guy, neither can they, reverse is also true. Antelope have much better eye sight than us. Walking behind a Angus Cow decoy I can get a lot closer to an antelope than I can trying to walk up to it in the wide open.

Based on my experience, Camo is helpful. Others can do as they like based on their experiences. There can be two realities here, there is not one universal truth.

Every time the topic of camo comes up there are people who don't use it but just have to tell others they are wasting their time wearing it as well. Next is telling others just hunt the wind and don't move is all you need to do.

Hunting the wind and not moving is common sense, all camo does is some what mask (I believe) the slight movements that are necessary even on stand.

IMO only having one camo pattern will definitely limit the effectiveness of it especially trying to use the same pattern from fall to winter. I have about 3-4 patterns and believe they help, so I will continue to wear them.

With regard to a poncho I do not like them as I find they restrict movement and are usually made of very noisy material as well.

Paying attention to the wind is an absolute must. Wearing camouflage is not. I hope we can see the difference.

It is not a must to wear camo, or use a call, or a blind, or a range finder or a decoy etc. but many feel and have proven to themselves that they help.

Very good point! Lots of game see colours/shapes/clarity very differently. If I had two hunts planned (deer and turkey) amd could only wear camo on one hunt. I'd wear it for turkey 10/10 times!

lol. I don't have any of those things. The reason I don't spend $1,000 in gas for hunting or loose that much in wages is because I live where people come to hunt from all over though. $500 on beer? Lol again.

I don't always wear plaid , I do have some camo stuff but don't use it often and only as a matter of. Convenience more than anything .
When I Hunt waterfowl I generally wear Carhartts and use blinds of one sort or another
Mostly though it's Jack shirts and the Irish Setter coat

Yup and pay attention to the wind, scent and movement and you are set.

I have to laugh at times when watching the big game hunting shows. The hunter is all decked out with camo from head to toe including the face mask whispering into the mic.
And standing 5' from him is his or her guide with a Car-Hart or blue jean jacket on and blue jeans.....hmmmm?

What I really get a kick out of is, when you pull up to a Timmies at 0400 and there is two guys exiting their truck with a cigarette or cigar hanging from their lip....hahahaha; that is so funny... so much for scent control...IMHO...

Now everyone knows the camo clothing line is vogue and the manufactures make a ton of money on it; from men, women, kids, your dog.....I just wish I had thought of it....lol

This is stupid logic, it is flawed in many ways. Plus I will never pay $600 for a jacket just based on principal. No way it costs even 10% of that for Sitka to make it, they are just fleecing fools.
