Default Council approves pay raise

Council approves pay raise

Updated: Mon Jan. 12 2009 11:28:57

ctvcalgary.ca
City Council voted to approve a 5.5% pay raise for Aldermen on Monday morning.

The raise would mean that Alderman will receive an extra $5000 this year on top of their current salary which is around $92,000 per year.

Council rejected a plea from Alderman Andre Chabot to consider changing the amount of the raise.

Alderman Chabot was calling for the raise to be cut in half, but he was unable to secure enough votes to send the matter back to council for reconsideration.

One Alderman said he is donating his money to charity..........................

Bronco Dave, always has the poor mouth when it comes to receiving provincial or federal funding, but he can find it in his budget to give alderman a 5.5 pay hike. SOME outside workers are laid off during winter months and many are paid for doing absolutely nothing, other than showing up.
Cupe has to fight for a 3, 3 & 3.5% increase over three years. In past few years inflation has been up around 5 & 6% rate, it's not hard to see who is keeping up and who is falling behind.

Another bunch of politician crooks voting in their own raise. If times get tough here in Alberta I hope those pr*cks remember, sh*t rolls down hill.

I agree with ya Tuc. This municipal (with the exception of a few), government has gone completely off the rails. I don't think I have ever looked more foreward to an election in my life. Watch Ric McIevor to take a run at Bronco for the top spot. He has a good shot and would be a fantastic mayor.

BP, I believe that it is in October of 2010. Should be interesting, with a much higher than usual turnout IMHO.

McIver (sorry spelled it wrong the first time), is right of center. He has over the years garnered the nickname, 'Dr No', from Rick Bell at the Calgary Sun. The name arose from his tendency to vote against any silly liberal proposals going back to the days of Al 'Do nothing' Duerr. Generally the councilor who speaks for taxpayer interests 9 times out of 10.

If he decides to make a run, I'll consider getting involved.
