I'm just getting involved into bowhunting. I am looking at getting a Fred Bear GAME OVER right now and was wondering if anyone has heard of or had any problems with it. Any other recommendations would be nice as well, I only have a small budget to deal with, so Mathews are out of the question. Thanks for any help

around what range is your budget? are those the ones in canadian tire? if you look on ebay and pawn shops you can usually find a decent used bow. just check for pressure cracks, make sure they have the spec sticker still on it, and ask what type of life its had, its kinda like buying a vehicle, if you look closely and ask enough questions you can usually tell what life it had.

The best advise I can give you, is this Before you buy your first bow, go to a bow shop and get yourself measure. They should let you shoot a number of bows. You'll know the exact draw lenght and the weight that is requird for you to be able to shoot accurately.
Once you know that then start looking around, in the bargain finder, Ebay and other places like the outdoorsman web site to find yourself a use bow that you willl be happy with.

If you buy a use bow from canadian tire etc and if it's the wrong bow for you, you will not enjoy the sport.

Good luck

exactly, heres how you figure out your draw length

Recommended Draw Weight Ranges (Modern Compound Bows)

Very Small Child (55-70 lbs.) 10-15 lbs.
Small Child (70-100 lbs.) 15-25 lbs.
Larger Child (100-130 lbs.) 25-35 lbs.
Small Frame Women (100-130 lbs.) 25-35 lbs.
Medium Frame Women (130-160 lbs) 30-40 lbs.
Athletic Older Child (Boys 130-150 lbs.) 40-50 lbs.
Small Frame Men (120-150 lbs.) 45-55 lbs.
Large Frame Women (160+ lbs.) 45-55 lbs.
Medium Frame Men (150-180 lbs.) 55-65 lbs.
Large Frame Men (180+ lbs.) 65-75 lbs.

i used this to figure out if my buddies bow was the right bow for me before he sold it to me. and so far its working out.

Even if you don't have the cash to buy a high end bow I'd encourage you to go to a place like Jim Bow's (archery shop on 5st NE Calagry). Jim will measure you properly and let you shoot some bows that way you know what works best for you. My best tip is don't buy a bow just cause the price is right. Price can be a factor in your purchase but shouldn't be the only factor.....

Thanks for the tips, i've fired a couple of my buddies bows, so i've narrowed down what i want in a bow, and found a dealer in Spruce Grove ( cause i'm from Edmonton). The GAME OVER is a bow created by Bear Archery the same company that built the The TRUTH 2
