Default 350 gr Barnes / .375 H&H

Anyone tried those bullets yet in their .375 ? i would love some comments. I would love to try them for bear hunting this spring.

It will be a 25 to 40 yrd shot.

Im curious to know if those bullet are actually doing a better job at hammering down a bear than a .300 gr bullet.

Thank you. !

They will kill a bear. That said, after 20 years of guiding, and hunting bears (having seen ballistic results on literally hundreds of bears), the bigger heavier bullets IMO tend to do less damage. When you skin out a bear there isn't much there. The large heavy bullets at that range tend to pass through before they get to fully expand. I have seen far more damage from a .270 win 130gr. ballistic tip on a bear, than was caused by a 300gr from a .375 at the same range. Personally shoothing at that range I would go for the lighter bullets over the heavier ones...

You won't get very much expansion with either 375 bullet. A 270, 7mm, 308, and 338 will expand larger than the 375 bullet at moderate to high speeds. For a 25-40 yard shot I'd be looking at something in the 3000 fps range for high velocity or go with a bush gun with soft nose bullets.

Why would you not get much expansion from a TSX at 25-40 yards from a .375?

A 350 gr bullet is only going 2200-2300 fps out of the 375, these suckers are made for penetration due to design and the speed their driven. For game like a bear I'd use the 235 grain.

Wow, I like big heavy bullets on bears shot out of large callibers, no expantion!!! really. Yes a 270 with bt will expand explosivly on a bear at short ranges, but won't brake bones and bust up heavy muscle. Big guns big bullets all the way, 350gr barnes will work great, I have used them and loved the results and if you happen to hit a shoulder bone you dont have to worry.
Load them go out and don't worry about it. my 2 cents.

Really ? I'd just love to see a bear big enough that a .270 wouldn't be able to break down... Trust me, at under 100yds, a .243 with the right bullet will break any bone in a bears body. Yes big guns with big bullets will work just fine, but lighter high velocity bullets designed for deer sized game work gerat too.

What is it about black bears that seem to get people thinking they are either mythically indestructable, or in the same class as a 12 foot thousand pound Alaskan Brown...
