Default Longest marriage

Let the longest suffering jokes begin!!

J/K
With all the divorce threads that pop up on here, I thought this thread would be refreshing.

My wife attended a service tonight for a family member who was married for 70 years. That was astounding to me.
When my dad passed, my parents had been married for 48years. I thought that was a lot, but apparently not. lol

What's the longest in your family?

My wife’s grandparents just celebrated their 70th anniversary as well! Mind blowing! When her grandma heard me comment about how unbelievable that was, she said it was way too hard to train another husband after so many years. lol.

My grandparents were married for 75 years. The only time they were ever apart was when my grandpa would go to Winnipeg for cancer treatments Monday to Friday and returning Friday night. Sadly grandpa passed away 2 years ago. Grandma talks about him every day amd misses him soo much.

My parents got married on January 2, 1945, 4 days after my Mom turned 20.
My Mom passed in early September 2014 (when we had a big snowstorm in Calgary). So, they were married roughly 69 3/4 years.

In 2016, we gathered on my Mom's birthday to remember her, and my Dad had a heart attack. His heart stopped, but we got it restarted, though he died within about an hour.

My Dad had often stated that whichever one of them went first would not have to continue life without their partner.

They had their ups and downs but they stuck together and made it work.

My wife and I will celebrate 42 years of marriage in July.

My great grandparents made 79 years. Great grandpa was 15 and grandma was 16. One of my favourite stories was my Great grandpa went to the steel mill for a job cause him and grandma were naughty teens so he needed to be a provider. They wouldn’t hire him until he was 16 so he went home and forged his birth certificate and went back the next day and handed it to another person in the office. They hired him on the spot. Fast forward 49 years and he walks into the mill and they were hosting a huge retirement party. He was confused. Why would they think I’m retiring at 64. Did some talking and found out he flew under the radar the entire time. So they paid him a years salary and sent him on his merry way at the age of 64.

Rodney Dangerfield loved his wife, he spoke of her often.

My wife I tell ya.
The other day she met me at the door wearing a sexy see-through negligee, but she was coming home.

Before I met my wife I was incomplete, and now I’m finished.
I tell ya.

38 yrs for myself and the wife.

Just lost my grand mother. They did 72 years. Would have went longer if they didn't drop dead. LOL. I'm coming up on 20 years myself. And I'm proud of that, seems these days some folks call it quits to easy.

When my in-laws celebrated their 50th I said something to my FIL about a testament to true love.
He replied that he wasn't sure if it was true love or just pig headedness.
Approaching my 40th I think he was on to something LOL
I expect the key to marital success is a combination of both

46ish for us.

Funny how you get used to each other. She used to complain when I farted in bed. Not anymore...now she complains about the dogs when they toot, and ignores me when I "accidently" puff one out. Gotta love her and the dogs for bailing me out.

I think the secret to a long and successful marriage is: Love, communication, honesty, humor, respect, and when it comes to wives, full understanding of hunting, fishing, guns, etc. I may have missed a few here...

My parents celebrated their 70th anniversary last September, and they are going strong.

I still have all 4 grandparents, and I was alive for 5 of my great grandparents, actually knew 4 of them as well.
The two greats were married 76 years before my great grandfather died.

Both sets of grandparents are over 72 years now.

I'm 12 years in may.

My wife and I just celebrated our 20th. When talking about it at a recent family function, my niece who is getting married this summer pointed out that my wife and I hold the longest marriage in the family, and that she is looking up to us as the example.

My Mom had 5 siblings, 3 never married, 1 was married but died, and 2 are divorced. It's strange being the longest marriage in a family, at only 46 years old.
