Dean2 your second rifle recommendation could come in very close to 8 lbs. I did up a 6.5X47 carry gun like that last year. Trued REM 700SA, 25" Benchmark #3 fluted, factory BM, Trigger Tech, Wildcat stock dipped Kuiu Verde 2.0, Z5 5-25X52, Tally. Finished right at 8 lbs. Not sure I'd want one in a 300 Win Mag or RUM at that weight. Be a lot of recoil. Now my 300 Win Mag at 10 lb 2oz is a pleasure to shoot with a brake and 215's at 3000 fps.

Yes, any of the 300's will work for you.
My go to 300 came in at 9 ish lbs all in, it was a tack driver for hunting,,, it was deffinatly a fun rifle for most of my neeeds.
I used 190gr bullets, lots of Deer and Elk, a couple of critters with that old pipe.

I had a 300 rum, great rifle and round,I shot 200 gr accubonds in it but it takes alot of powder to push them bullets(98-100grs retumbo in mine)and they are hard on throats.I went with a 300 wsm after that.I think you can't go wrong with a 300 win mag or 300 wsm they both will get the job done at less cost if you really want a 300.I wouldn't hesitate at looking at a 7mm Rem mag either for the better ballistics for long range.

Been using a 300wm since mid 90’s. Love the caliber. My main rifle is my Sako 75ss 300wm with 180gr Accubonds (new since 1997 and still my main rifle). No issues . Good for short and long range. A 165gr TTSX to 180gr would great as well. 150/180 ABs or the 190LRAB would be good
I am set up for 3.5” high at 100m with zero at about 325m.
If you want to step up a bit, a 300 Ultra Mag with a 180-200gr bullet would be sweet as well.

Mine is a Rem 700 sendaro in 300 RUM c/w brake, squirts a 190gr nosler accubond long range out the front at 3175 fps, wears a ziess conquest 6.5 - 20 x 50mm, and shoots under 1 moa with ease, it will reach out there with the best of them, of course if you want to split hairs there are rigs out there that shoot 2" flatter at 1000 yds and maybe hold an additional 100 flb's of energy and that's why its fun to debate which is the best, you probably cant go wrong with any of the above mentioned

I am going to be the odd man out. And say 300 H&H
Why? well it is diffrent and cool. You will be the only guy at the range shooting long range with one.
And they are very cool.

If also agree with .300 Norma Magnum. It's an extremely flat-shooting, powerful and accurate cartridge. A fellow had a custom ATRS build at the range the other day. His had a carbon fibre barrel and was surprisingly light and accurate.

Also I'd like to know what scope would be the best for this application.
I'll be loading my own ammo as well so any good recipes are welcome.
Thanks everyone.

I'll take my 300 wsm to hunt sheep and elk in BC this year.
200 gr Eld X for a bullet and Leupold vx3 should be good enough for about 600 yds.
My heavy barrel 300 win will stay home this time as I am not willing to carry the extra weight any more. So I will keep it simple..

had a 300wsm in both a kimber montana and a pencil barreled h-s precison ... both obviously exceptionally lite!!! and accurate, used 165-180gr ammo ... great to carry but they both kicked like a rented mule and jumped around like a scared jackrabbit when the the trigger was squeezed

I had a Kimber Montana in 300 WSM and I felt recoil was very manageable for such a light gun. The Kimber stocks just seem well designed for my frame to soak up recoil.

I ended up buying a browning xbolt 300 win mag long range in the hells canyon addition. Been out twice now shooting and I love it. Super accurate and deadly long range. This will be the perfect riffle for elk and sheep hunting. Thank you to everyone who gave me there oppinion I truely appreciate it. Cheers!

I went with vortex viper bdc dead hold 6.5-20x44 because it was on sale for 499$ from 650$ I thought it wouldnt be as good as it is. I like it.
As for rounds go
I'm reload my own ammo:
Winchester brass
Reloader22 powder 73gr
Cci 250 primer
195 Sierra tmk
Getting good results for 1st time shooting this round.

Be careful with the R22. I found it very temp sensitive when I used it in my 25-06AI. Much more consistent results with H1000. H1000 and the 300 Win Mag with a 215 Berger is a hard combo to beat. Extremely accurate and great performance on game.

Also browning changed the 300wm long range 26" barrel from 1-10 twist to 1-8 twist just wondering is the 215 burgers will work together with the 1-8 twist? Thanks

Yeah it is nice to see Browning using fast twist barrels. 8 twist is super fast for a 30 cal. My barrel is a 10 twist and works fine. I believe Berger changed their recommended twist for the 215's from 10 to 9 twist. So your 8 twist will have no problem stabilizing the 215. The 215 Berger is a Hybrid design so load development is very easy. 30 thou off has worked very good in a few different 300 Win Mags. I won't disclose my load as I used a custom reamer which is not SAMMI spec. If you try the 215 just go to Bergers site and use their starting load and work up to pressure.

You can put a good zeiss on it the v6 and v8 in the victory line or the victory ht with asv system, both have extremely clear glass and are not over weight.
My 300 win shot great and I only went out to 700 yards no problem at all with my turret with 180 accubonds and you will be pleased ,had no more room to go futher. If you need a scope I have couple kickin around that are new in the box.both zeiss ht's only a few month's old SFP with plex reticle.I won't touch another Swarovski ,I had 3 z6's and ditched them all.I don't like a reticle that's to busy and the less crap on the lens the better I feel, just my personal liking.
There's a few demo's for these rifles in a couple stores in Canada that are just display models you can save as much as 30 percent if your lucky.
Buy whatever you like, but by something you like that will last for some time and easy access to barrels if you wear one out, that's fast and cheap to install.
If it's on my hunting rig I don't like to start at 5 or 6 power,2.5 x15,3x12 due to using your scope from heavy bush I want a wide field of view close in for fast shots and enough power for plinking.19 oz in a scope is plenty,30 oz's is is just to much of difference to haul around.
Either way.best of luck on you quest for your new hunting rig and target rifle.

Which shops have these demo christiansen arms?

Wasn’t planning on taking it up but decided to last minute and I didn’t bring my mountain rifle. It weight 9 lbs with 4 rounds, I didn’t notice it being heavy at all. But that’s just me.

Agreed...shoot what you are comfortable with and shave weight elsewhere from your gear.
Featherweight mountain rifles with high end ultralight optics being a “must have” to enjoy a successful hunt is wayyyy overrated....thousands of sheep have been killed with wooden stocked 700s and model 70s wearing clunky 4-12x Loopys weighing 9lbs+ all in.
If 11oz is going to make or break your hunt, you would likely be better off spending more hours in the gym getting into sheep shape then putting those hours in as overtime paying for a $6000/7lb rifle/scope combo.

If it’s a long range rig you're after, I wouldn’t bother with a Swarovski Z anything, even with ballistic turrets, unless you’ve got a ballistic reticle your max range will be 700-800yds. There are plenty of long range scopes out there but lightweight long range scopes are a red herring, and they ain’t cheap. Any 300 magnum will make a suitable long range rifle, your scope will make the difference.
Buy a Swarovski X5 and it’ll blow your mind! Lol.
