why soak up all that recoil just to shoot a measly 1000? I would do it with a 22 hornet myself.

If you are a newbie asking a naive question, the caliber is a good one for deer out to moderate ranges (no 1000 yd hunting gun though) and that is granted you meant 6.5x55.

Look into shooting 1000 yds and you may note it is no picnic. Just because Marky-Mark did it in "Shooter" does not mean anyone can. He had hollywood's help, and that is a pricey shooting companion.

Try this forum for active discussion from individuals that strive for the 1000 yrd. stuff:

That way you may avoid being eaten alive here with that particular question.

A troll can be simply a very immature person posting obnoxious and usually off-topic statements intended to upset others, or it can be someone with an axe to grind, slinging mud in the hope that some of it will stick. Trolls are generally cowards, hiding behind a made up name and sharing little, if any, information about themselves.

Most Trolls are sad and lonely creatures who want to be noticed, and they feed on negativity. Like a spoiled two-year-old, or a lonely teen, they act up to get a reaction, and if their bad behavior is ignored, if they don't get the reaction they are hoping for, they will eventually go away.

The 6.5X55 is a GREAT target cartridge for long distnace shooting , but NOT for hunting.
For a 6.5 caliber to be adequete at 1000 , you need to be able to push a 140 grain bullet over 3,000FPS at thhe muzzle, and there arre not a lot of 6.5 cartridges that are capable of that and still stay within allowable pressures and barrle life.

The cartidge is only a small part of the battle.
The rifle, scope, take up another part of the equation, not to mention a good range finder and SUPERB shooting ability of the nut behind the bolt.
Hope thhis answers your questions.....
