i met you icefishing i was fishing with some younger guys from the forum. You came along and it was suddenly like that old collage movie we have all seen where the big loud older guy tries to impress the young guys so a couple of us just moved further away. that was enough for me didnt need to meet you again. but to each his own.

Still fun when a guy can get out with other guys and have a good weekend but its been hard finding guys interested in doing those full weekend kinds of trips so I often end up going on my own.

I too sold all my ice fishing gear this year. I might pick up enough gear to join some buddies if they want to go do a fun trip or two but I won't be fishing every weekend this winter like I have the past few. Instead I am hoping to do a Florida trip or go to a kayak fishing resort in Panama, maybe I can get lucky and figure out a way to squeeze both in.

Next summer I wont fish as much but will try to fit in 1 or 2 big trips each month. I would like to hit Vancouver Island up again and there is also a tournament out in Ontario I have been wanting to try. Will have to fit a Fraser trip or two in as well and have all sorts of other trips I would love to do but the above alone will already use my 3 weeks vacation and up and then some...

I need a good job with around 3 months of vacation, then I might be able to fit in some more of these trips I want to do lol.

Got a name for that kayak fishing resort in Panama?

Extremely cool!
The shoulders on salt water fish are just incredible, there is nothing in fresh water that fights like them.
Mahi mahi is my dream catch. Even more than a sailfish.
Very jealous!

Bonefish are fun little rockets aren't they? I missed a huge GT chasing a bonefish on the wrong side of the boat.

Yeah, the Mahi Mahi are great fighters for their size and color can't be matched. We didn't get any pics of them at the time they were caught, they were too thrashy to hold. So the pics we do have of them, the color had faded by that point
The bonefish are awesome, so much fun watching the school get close and then the guide giving you pinpoint directions on where to plant your fly..."strip, strip, faster, faster, pull! you got him!" haha, just crazy. By the end of the week, you start to get the hang of where to cast and what to look for, very cool. Even the small Bonefish had me into my backing almost every single time, made that reel sing!

All in all on that trip, between 7 guys during 7 days of fishing, we got into:
Mutton Snapper
Bonefish
Mahi Mahi
Wahoo
Yellowfin Tuna
Barracuda
Permit
Nurse Shark
Triggerfish
Mackerel
Amberjack
Needlefish

I think that's it lol, hard to remember that far back. We caught a couple other varieties of snapper too, but the names escape me

Free diving for conch shells (we put them back after some pictures), dolphins swimming beside our flats boat, witnessing a water spout...just unreal memories

We even had an underwater video of a school of bonefish sweeping through us while we snorkeled on the ocean-side of Long Cay, I'm not sure which of our group ended up with the file but man, that was unbelievable to experience...a huge Manta Ray flanked by 3 Mutton Snappers even made a brief appearance

Ken, the more I reminisce, the more I realize I miss the salt haha, can't wait to go back one day

Ken,
Marty from Raider Well Servicing has a boat in Puerto Vallarta. The Boat is named "La Cindy". Me and an couple guys from Lloyd 2 winters ago caught a 450 lb marlin and a mahi on a day excursion towards the end of Jan. The boat is awesome and the crew was top notch. They have won several Marlin derbies down there. I highly recommend his boat and crew.

It's that time again.

I have the itch, this summer sucked, only went out one trip to BC.

Looks like I am going to go out on a party boat in Mexico again, hoping for mahi mahi this time.

Anyone else going South?

I'll be out fishing the streams and rivers until the rod guides are frozen and my fly line won't strip through them. At which point I'll be digging out the tent and auger then staring down holes for hours!

DON'T EVER GO OCEAN FISHING!!! lol

I used to do that too, fished every lake within 150 miles for 40 years, loved icecube trolling too.
Just can't fish sloughs anymore. Salt water ruined me

Made 2 trips to the ocean this year. Both really amazing trips!

Still, I can't wait for some key Alberta fall trips to come! And then the ice to follow. Tons to look forwards to right here on my doorstep.

Too bad your mind is closed to it. After all, you are fishing the worlds biggest slough they call "ocean". But don't worry. I'm sure the radioactive contaminants will disperse enough from Japan to here so you don't have to worry ... much....

We were in Hawaii in 2011 when Japan started glowing. That was our first trip to Oahu, and we could not wait to get away from the ocean, we were way too close to the radiation.
