The Shooting Edge?
I am at wits end. There are no memberships for ranges that I can find around Calgary. I am interested in the Edge as it has a 50 yard range. The retail store is of almost no interest to me and past errors in judgement do not concern me. Searching has revealed a mixed view of the operation in the past. However things can change and I am hoping for current experiences.
I did visit and was given a tour by a helpful young man. The place seemed clean enough and friendly. It is a lot of money but recent retirement allows me to shot a great deal now. Reports here are making me concerned about Crown Land shooting.
I can shoot any time they are open and am only PAL rated. For those who use the facility how do you find range availability and safety generally, quietest times for 50 yd range, and family friendly atmosphere?
If anyone knows of a club range opening near Calgary please PM me?

I thought Western Metal was just online sales. They do have an associated range in Calgary though: http://straightshooters.ca/home.html

It is a new part of the company. OP if you don't mind shooting outdoors, check out CDTSA, taking new members now. We have a small range at Sheperd and a much bigger facility at Milo.

I’ve been a member at Calgary Shooting Center for several years and it’s ok. But the one thing I like better at the Edge is their pistol and rifle ranges are separate. You can shoot rim fire in the pistol range but no center fire.

I started on Jan. 31 before midnight and refreshed regularly for hours and less regularly for days. I never got any positive response or a button to join.

I though that I read on CGN that they are full up this year, not taking any new members, but they have started a waiting list for next year. Don't hold that as being the truth though.

Cdtsa is currently NOT taking new members they have yet to update there website to accept new members as planned for the end of January. Last year it was a similar experience of a lag before they took new members. I would expect March before they give a update as they are quite slow with communication. I would also expect the memberships they do make available to sell out in less than 4 hours like last year. This is a very popular range and it has a set number of memberships making it very difficult to get one if you don’t plan out a stratagy you might be sitting on the sidelines for another year.

Thanks for the suggestions. Driving to Lethbridge is an option as are some other distant ranges. However I'm now a bit handicapped and on disability due to ongoing cancer treatment. I was once a member of the Rocky range but the drive became a bit much as well the gas costs are not insignificant.

I'm a member of Lethbridge as well, although I grew up there and always maintained my membership there after moving to Calgary. It is a bit of a drive, and to get a gate key you need to take a range officer course, so it;'s not completely painless. It is a nice range though, and the lower cost of membership ($160ish) might offset some of the cost of fuel.
