Default Built a woodworking tool cabinet

It's been on my list for a long time. Cherry case with Baltic birch plywood and walnut tool hangers from scraps I had. I've never cut so many dovetails on one project, especially in 7/8" cherry.

It came from a plan I got from Fine Woodworking. A pretty good use of space with the inner doors and being able to hang tools on both sides.

A few more to hang and probably some ongoing changes (all hangers are screwed so easy to move) but I'm going to call it done for now. With all those empty drawers in my rolling tool cabinets, I'm sure tool acquisition syndrome will kick in again.

Default tool cabinet

Wow, that's gorgeous, doesn't look like you've got a lot of room left to fill it any further. You may need to build another one if acquisition syndrome hits.

Thanks for the nice comments. It was definitely something I wanted and needed, ha! I have a lot of old and new tools so it was fun picking which ones made it into the cabinet.

The old Stanley 750 and 720 chisels are my favourite users. They're all from the 40's to 60's until Stanley stopped making quality tools. I have some new old stock ones that I'll sell eventually as they are now going for stupid money. I also have a new set of Stanley Sweetheart 750's as they started making quality tools again 10 years or so back. Very nice, but not as good as the old ones still. Something in that steel (3% vanadium I believe).

Ken, the planes are mostly new. One Lee Neilsen 4 1/2 smoother with a 55 degree frog. The rest of the bigger ones are all newer Veritas. I have some old Stanley/Bailey ones which are very good, but the modern Veritas and Lee Neilsen's are a big improvement from the old ones.

Working on hanging a few more tools today and building a block to hold some of my palm chisels for one of the shelves. Now that I'm organized, back to building guitars and other stuff.

Beautiful work! Care to share any pictures of your other projects? Building guitars sounds intriguing.

Mad skills, man! Respect.

Kind of have a “dream” of setting up a shop and making some cabinets and furniture as a hobby. Not sure it will ever happen, but... I am a not even talking about the guitars, only looking at that tool cabinet, my chances of making something nice are pretty slim, lol.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, the lee Neilsen planes are on another level for sure, I don't own one, but have used one that my brother owns.

That is a the best of both worlds. Practical, and beautiful. I goes without saying, that in addition to skill and artistic eye, you obviously have one of the most important virtues to being an excellent woodworker: patience. Lots of it.

Truly outstanding workmanship.
