I'm looking to get a 24x24 garage pad done, just the slab and no curbs. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good concrete company to call? And what cost will I be looking at? Thanks
When you do get it done, go thicker than 4". Like 5 to 6" with lots of rebar. JMO. Building codes in Edmonton call for something like 12" x 12" Thick grade beam all around the outside edge with a 4" pad all poured at the same time. I cheated a little on mine and have 6" X 12" with a 4" pad and have a lot of cracks. Check your local building codes. Its worth the extra cost of the concrete to go thicker. The labour cost basically stays the same with little to no increase.
I believe its code now in Calgary to have Curb Walls.
You may want to spend the extra money and add curb walls (whereever you are) as I know it might become an issue for you when you sell.
I've had clients who have looked at houses and passed on the house because the Garage was built without em and they were concerned about future water damage / rot.
Pour a monolithic slab (thickened edge). Thickened edge is your footing area to bear the load of the bldg. My garage was 24x28. I went with about 6" thick slab with edges close to 24" wide by about 10" in height. A bit overkill but would rather have a wider footing area than less for the little extra in concrete volume.
Check with your local municipality on bldg. codes / requirements.
Use "Dura-mix" spec concrete. All suppliers in Alberta " should" now what type of mix this is.
