Default Weekend Goose Hunt.

Finally got out for a Goose hunt this weekend. It was the first time in a couple years that I was able to get all the boys together for a hunt. Jesse the oldest now being out on his own and working steady makes it hard for us to line up our days off at the same time and Jordan with his football and school make it tough for us. But everything lined up for us finally.

Friday evening Jesse and I went out and scouted a nice flock, talked to the land owner and secured our field for Saturday morning. The day could not come fast enough for all of us. Jesse and I got up early and finished off on the home made coffins that I have been working on for the last couple weeks. We were quite excited to see how they would work. I know last year Jordan and I were out and had a tough time with the birds. We were just not prepared for these southern flocks they are a lot smarter than they are in the north,, quite a bit more decoy leary.. Shortly after noon we were all ready so all 3 of the boys and I headed out to the field and got set up. The 3 brothers worked on the decoys and I on the blinds. It didn't take long for the boys to have a very nice U pattern set up on the decoys ( we are running 6 dozen). When we were done we stood back and had a look,, damn was it fine those 2 new home made coffins were invisible. It really is easy to camo up in a corn field.

It would be an 1hr 1/2 until our first flock came and how excited we were. It was a beautiful thing,, them birds didn't hesitate an ounce we called and flagged them in and they came in solid right to the end,, man did that feel good. If any of you have sat in blinds and have them hate your set up you know what I mean it is very discouraging. But these birds came in all the way. The first flock was about 6 - 8 birds and we connected on 3 birds. The night went well with 13 flocks coming our way. Out of those 13 flocks we landed 9 birds. We only lost 2 flocks that didn't take the set up and I beleive that to be because of the land owner doing some work in the far corner of the 1/4 working with a post pounder and a track hoe. 2 of the other flocks we drew blanks,, damn those are some tough birds unreal really..

All in all we ended up with 9 very nice sized Geese and 4 Teals a really great night. Not only for the kills but just the fact all 3 brothers were out together and it never ceases to amaze me how well boys get along when hunting not an argument out of any of them all night. The older boys were so very helpful with Sammy going over everything with him as many times as he asked and giving him pointers and he never giving an attitude just soaking it all up. If some of you remember this is Sam's first fall officially hunting. And it felt good to have the equipment work for us as well. It all came together just like clock work.

Now we wait until the next outing,, can't wait.

Sorry no pics this time in all the excitement I forgot to bring the camera,, I really wish I could of shared some of the pics of the setup it really is looking sweet..

Well I wouldn't say missing,, we are pretty decent shots with scatter guns,, more in the way of shot placement and just plain old tough birds and the blessing of steel shot lolol..

And in all we had 11 flocs that came in that we shot at.. But like anything we definitely need more practice at it.. But thanks the boys will appreciate your encouraging words..

I am glad to hear other people had an amazing time. This was my frist year goose hunting and the first time we went out there was just something they didn't like, and yes it was very frustrating! but after rearanging and persevering we started connecting and I am definatley hooked! Congrats on getting out there and bagging those birds!
