Default Nice Moose

I was out with friends looking for elk, when we came upon a cow and this gent in the road this morning....the young fellow holding it is Adam, (his tag), and his dad in the background. Not taken with a bow although we all bowhunt, but Adam hit him broadside at 175 yrds with his .30-06 right in the boilerworks. None of us wanted to go looking too far for him.....! He managed to get about 20 yrds, he was still standing when we drove up but Adam put him down cleanly, not that he would have been standing long anyway. Its amazing the pounding a critter that size can take and still be standing. Nice to have a moose on the ground by 10 am, only 30 yrds off the road.....meat for the freezer! (and for any who might be evil minded, no, he wasn't shot from the truck....Adam actually stalked up about 40 yrds while his dad was calling, the moose came in about 30 yrds before he decided to turn for the bush...)

Don't know for sure how much he was field dressed, but guessing in the 700+ range. Paddles were 48 1/8" wide....My back is still hurting from dressing and loading. Al told me that both his sons have now taken moose bigger than he ever has....nice!

You'll have to pardon the rotten picture, came off my cell phone, and I couldn't resize it properly....I'm not very nerdy that way.

From tip to tip of the widest points, it sure looks much wider than 48 1/2 inches. Nice moose!

Congrats on a beautie moose. For some reason, those steaks seem to taste a whole lot better on the Barbie after the blood sweat and tears getting them out .........Marco

Yup, but the pics lie! In trying to resize it so it fits the precise 600x800 format that this forum requires, it 'skewed' the picture, making it look wider than it really is. I'm not really good at fiddling with pictures, but in the original, both Adam and his moose are a little bit narrower (in the pic, Adam does sort of look like he could bench press 400lbs...but he's actually a fairly thin young guy).. Still, a whompin big moose to load, and the steaks will sure be tasty....

Thanks everyone. TC

Question came up about how old this bull looks....our consensus was that he's fairly young, 5-6, based on his rack and color. What think some of you with a bit more experience? Are we in the ballpark?
