Default Muley down...!

Well after more than a few Saturdays of scouting, glassing, and climbing big hills, I got the job done. This buck was taken in one of the mountain units not too far from yyc.
There was about 10 minutes of legal light left when this guy's nose hit the ground.
I was about 4 km's from the truck, the guys I usually hunt with were busy hauling a moose out of another wmu.
So long story short, I went in light and came out heavy!

At about 1 am I rolled into the garage. tired, thirsty, hungry, but really satisfied with the hunt.

Once the season is over I'm sure we'll do a podcast episode on some highlights of our hunts. Mike got his elk this year too. And there's a few weeks left.....

Cheers.

Congrats! Sounds like a lot of hard work, but I think in the end none of us complain about that.

Nice buck! A hard earned animal you will remember forever - well done. I hope to have the same luck this weekend.

Good buck, I’m sure the mass on those dark antlers against the white snow made it a no-brainer.

Yeah, that made the decision for me. That and he came charging out of the trees chasing a three point!

The best hunts are the ones that we earn with hard work. Awesome!!!

thanks.
I was a bit concerned that the meat would be a little rank. He was pretty into chasing the does right up to the end.
So we made some simple meat patties and some slow cooker chili to test it out.
We were relieved to find that the meat is good!

Personally through my experience , I've shot a lot of MD in Full rut, yes I have had a few stronger ones, my biggest , near thirty inches wide, huge bodied buck that dressed 197, full rut, ate like a doe. Terrific eating. Always careful of scent glands, never had any that turned me off.

Default full account of hunt

Just thought I`d let people know that we released a podcast episode that gives a full account of this hunt. Along with some general info on scouting and hunting mule deer on public land.

We`re also looking for future episode ideas. So we decided to do a raffle for a Havalon knife. Details on how to enter are outlined in the episode.

Cheers.

Mountain Mule deer Bucks are worth so much more than any prairie Buck in my book.
The challenge of the country and hard hunting makes everlasting memories.

Congratulations
