The CVR ice has to be near 28"- 30" with that recent cold snap......I will have to throw in the auger extension, just in case....

I was out last weekend and the ice was close to 28" I'd say.

I was running out of room on the auger.

Nice day....ice measured 29"- 30" ...... some deeper drifting snow, but nothing a 4x4 can't manage. The lake was mostly covered in snow.

The north road in, was nearly clear; with the normal ruts and potholes though.

No auger extension required.

A lot of people out enjoying themselves..... Counted over 25 vehicles just from our location.
Good luck

We must have been close to you. We were in a white chev. Ice was the same you mentioned...Around 30"...No extension needed yet. A few pike on the camera, no walleye. Pulled out one decent pike at approx. 8-10lbs..Biggest I have caught in the last number of years.LOL.

Wind got worse throughout the afternoon, but still a decent day.

Will I have trouble getting through the ice with a 6 inch hand auger? Last time I went was before the cold snap.

You should be fine. I have a 6 inch hand drill with a cordless drill and the drill was about 2 inches away from the ice surface last weekend.
The manual handle for the drill should add another foot or so before bottoming out.

Anybody seeing any whitefish out there? If so, what depths would you target the Walley, vs the Whitefish.
Thanks

I had a good-sized whitefish swim by a couple of weeks ago when I was out there. Couldn't get it to take though. 12 FOW along structure. My best spots for Walleye have been in 25-40 FOW.

Deep mudflats for whites, 30 plus ft. Red wireworm patterns to match the bloodworms they're eating. Haven't targeted them this year at CVR but that's how I've caught them in the past. Don't think the population is of a high density compared to the other reservoirs like travers or newell even mcgregor.

Heads up:
On Monday (March 01) A buddy entered the north end of the lake...All was ok getting on but not so much leaving....the road out, especially up the hill as you leave, VERY muddy and greasy....he was lucky to get out. He spent $28 at the truck wash, all said and done.

I was on yesterday (March 04) and entered from the campground, good going on and good coming off.

In leaving, the road from the boat ramp to the office was slushy but still easily passable.

Ice measured 29" and there was no slush on the surface coming off at 5:00 PM.

I would recommend that you wear boot spikes as the ice is glassing up and slippery.

Good luck

What time do the burbot bite? We tried to target them today and only ended up with a couple walleye. Fishing south east end ~16 FOW. Only stayed til 7:45 as it was getting cold and we do not have a shelter. Thanks.

anyone recently out there? I heard last weekend tones of vehicles still on ice. I'm wondering about for tonight or tomorrow?
Still safe to drive?

With these day time temps we've had over the last week I would not be driving on.

Was on yesterday a good 30 inches of hard ice. Not an issue driving on but make sure you have some spikes on your boots

Anyone get anything today? Just got skunked. Went all over the south end fishing anywhere from 9 to 25 feet.

Out all afternoon mid-way up the lake, great day. Landed 20+ mix of pike and walleye. The pike were up shallow early and then the walleye showed up around 4 and stayed until dark. ~10 feet of water on a nice weed edge.
