Id second a 30-30 as you can find them cheap used in good condition. A 6.5 isn't a bad choice

So close to bday took the boy out to try out some rifles ended up buying him a savage model 11 youth in 7mm 08. Now for you hunters with experience with this caliber I've found the Hornady whitetail 139gr or the federal 150gr in stock. What is your recommendations between the 2. Thanks again for all the help

Default Alternative calibre

6.5 Creedmoor or 7-08. Even 308.

Buy the cheapest ammo with the lightest bullet you can find let him blasé away then as he gets comfortable with the rifle, then buy some more expensive heavier bullet weights.. then settle on a bullet for hunting and go get some.

I like 145 gr. bullets myself for hunting but I reload and have no idea what you can find in factory ammo that would be close to that weight.

Trades I would interested in:
- Sightron rifle scopes, 4.5x14x42mm or 4x16x42mm
especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.

Crazy went to bass pro to grab some ammo 2 aisles worth is now reduced to a 4x5ft section of rifle ammo no 7mm 08, very surprised how a company like that has no ammo. Cabelas cheapest ammo was 47- 80$. So far cheapest is online for 30. Any body in calgary know or seen any on any shelves?

6.5 Creedmore, and maybe start him using non-toxic ammunition. I'd expect we'll be seeing lead hunting ammo being phased out in the near future, and he'll be ahead of the curve! The Sako S20 6.5 Creedmore has lots of features that would appeal to a young fella (or even an old fart!).

all the more reason to get into reloading then when your out and about and randomly see things you need you stock pile even if your intentions were not to buy for reloading. Then you look at your well prepared bench that seems to always be stocked even during a pandemic!

It’s all based on American distribution. All Canadian bass pro shops source from their American stores and the selection is based on what they can get from there. Where as cabelas still retains a Canadian distribution system. Hence why there’s a website. Or at least that’s what the cabelas cashier told me.

Try the cad tire on Macleod or Cochrane. They stock pretty good selection
