Default Feral Hogs

For several years I have been hearing about increasing feral hog populations on the prairies, but I have yet to either see one or see any signs of them.

Have any of you seen any sign of wild hogs?

Here is the short answer

Yes. There are feral hogs

No. No one is going to tell you where they are.

Yes. They have piglets a few times a year so I believe their numbers will grow.

I seen one dead on the highway between Sangudo and Mayerthorpe if that narrows it down for you.

Otherwise most of them hogs are usually running around on lakes with 12" perch. So I've heard.

This thread is a lot like my experience working on the oil rigs. I got lucky as I was related and friend of the driller. Rather than teach the new roughnecks how to properly do their job,( there was safety issues here as well that backfired) all the experienced hands would spend their shift screwing them around and laughing at them making mistakes. Until the crunch happened and then they could yell at them for being stupid. You guys should treat this poster with some respect and help them out rather than making fun of him (her). Just an observation.

Between Sangudo and Mayerthorpe. Get iHunter app and go for a look. There are some grazing leases and I believe a community pasture nearby. Thing is they are more likely going to be on the private land where the feed is. Look for swath grazing or standing corn.

Confirmed his sightings for me

5 South of olds running across the #2
Just west of taber

Unconfirmed
Sundry area
Sangudo area (hunting ranch?)
Blue ridge (likely same ranch as above?)

Private property and time has made It impossible for me to put an honest effort into would rather spend my time chasing elk access 15 min from the house than burning gas chasing shadows where no one will ever give me access to hunt them.

Gotta prove yourself to the high count posters who have been part of the AO family for years.

Yup they are out there. Yup they are hard to find driving down the highway and range roads.

Ive seen one harvest remains in the last 10years out and about.

There was a recent news article about a University of Saskatchewan researcher who has an app recording location of wild hog sightings.
He is soliciting input to make it more comprehensive. Seems like a good source of info to me.

Wild hogs are a noxious, invasive species.

Only two places I've ever heard of. 1) Around Lac St Anne. 2) Niton Jct area. I've been hunting in AB for well over 30 yrs & have yet to see one nor do I know anyone that has. One would have way better luck in Saskatchewan. Like looking for a needle in a haystack in AB.

They can go feral as well as any other hog.

Last find for me was a boar skull on a Pembina sandbar by south of Entwistle in the summer.
We jumped a couple years ago in the Jack pine grazing lease

Save yourself a ton of time and money. Book a flight to Texas, Hawaii, Georgia or the Carolina's. Lots of hogs, lots of people happy to help you get a few; total cost, way less than the gas spent trying to get one in Alberta. I have shot hogs and Boar all over the world, I love hunting them. Only ever shot one in Alberta and it was while hunting Bear. I wouldn't waste my time hunting them on purpose here.

No feral hogs here but a few years back a pig escaped from a local farm and ended up in the middle to of town. It was a nuisance, making a mess and rooting up gardens. An old guy took his rifle and shot the pig while it was in town one day and solved the problem. An RCMP member confiscated his rifle but did give it back to him a few days later. You can do anything in small town Saskatchewan lol.

The one thing to keep in mind, is if there were as many as some people assume, they should be a lot easier to find.
