Just the thought of that conjured up the image of the "urban hunter" (like they have in the 'States).

Would be cool if that was even a possibility here - even if there was a specialized course/qualification for that... Get your bow and tree saddle and help out.

A fella can dream...

Default Hogs

I have killed several hogs at my normal hunting area. One 300 pounder and the rest ranging from 60 - 175 roughly. Use this bait.....corn kernels , grape jello 1 pk, yeast one pack or 2 big spoonfuls in a 10 gal. plastic tub. Fill with water and let it ferment in a warm garage. You can kill them on this bait and they will come back. When it starts to smell a bit then put it out and it will work .

Seeing as how our elected officials like to emulate their EU masters, they should ban picnics and impose curfews like they are doing in Rome.
That will work for sure.

Rome residents impose curfew after spate of wild boar attacks.

Have you watched a council meeting lately, pretty easy to see where the thriving swine are.

There was a good piece on Global TV @ 8:00pm tonight. They are a big problem (invasive species) and need to be eradicated. Researcher in South Carolina recons hunting is ineffective as it teaches them to avoid humans making them tougher to find. So far has found baiting and trapping can take out some impressive numbers. Showed one trap that he caught 40 in one night. He was working on a bait that deer won’t touch.

I've heard reports of wild boar in and near Elk Island Park and apparently there is now a province-wide bounty on them.

Hunting is effective when using dogs, night vision scopes and helicopters. I killed about 30 pigs one night with an AR 15 and a night vision scope. I have friends in TX who has killed over 100 in day from a chopper. I've been to Texas almost every year from 1997 to 2020 and from my anecdotal experience, there are far less pigs around now than 20 years ago. It's usually the trappers who are telling everyone that hunting is ineffective.

99% of Albertans have never seen a wild pig so I don't think we're in a crisis yet.

We might have just big enough coyote population to take on wild boars in the cities….

I think a coyote would be a poor opponent for a wild pig. People don't scare them.

One on one- sure. But they usually attack the bigger pray in groups. Plus, they will most likely go after piglets. If pigs can’t multiply- they will die out, like dinosaurs…
