Regardless I’ll definitely be having this chat when I get to camp
Supposedly they don’t shoot unless they have to
2/3 hunters got bears over 9’6” since the opener on the 10th
Should be fun 👍

You should advise the guide that his tip depends on whether or not he shoots your bear. That’s exactly what I’d do.

Maybe he knew they weren't hit well. The last thing I'd want to do is walk into dense head and higher alder patches retrieving a wounded bear because some jackhandle can't make a decent shot at 1 -200 yds on something the size of an SUV. Not to mention them ending up the bottom of a gulley in a stream where slicing, dicing, and packouts would be so much fun.

What would Billy know. His experience with brown bears pales in comparison to the AO crowd and all the video watching time put in lol

Yep. Guiding for grizzly , Dalls, and caribou at 18 to 45?? means nuttin. Those remote drop tent camps are pretty cushy too.

Brown bear
Good luck, amigo on the brown bear. It was on my bucket list ever since I was a small boy but my career was such that I never had holidays during the brown bear seasons.
So I hunted places far away that had seasons in July and August.
The years went by and eventually I had time off -for the rest of my life.
So I hared it up to the Copper River and later the Mulchatna River to try for a big brownie.
It took me three expensive trips before I even saw a brownie. My wife must have thought that I was in Reno chasing something else.
On my third brown bear hunt I got a big male. 30 yards in a salmon creek. It obviously was not true but I considered that old bear the greatest animal in all of North America. And he was mine, forever.
By the way, the season that fall in that part of Alaska allowed 2 (!!) brown bears.
One was enough for me, of course. I believe that it would have been disrespecful to whack them and stack them.

Good luck Mark! Hope you find a nice one!
Nothing quite like following an arrow shot brown bear in the alders! Been there! No shotgun slugs fired or necessary but would have been fine with losing P&Y eligibility if we had needed the shotgun.

That's great to hear! What an opportunity.
During a round with COVID I entertained myself by binge-watching Billy Molls videos. Sure looks like an adventure!

landed saturday, asked monday. 48 hours to kill a bear? That's lots of time.
He must have missed a flight or something. He probably hasn't even started hunting yet. Waiting for AO to tell him the proper technique so he can educate his guide.

If you look at the picture above it
That guy was on the top of the third ridge from the right.
We were camped at like 30 feet above sea level
He was over 4000 feet up
From where he was it was only 2 miles to the pacific and he was about 6 miles from us
