Default Black Bears in Hinton/Edson Areas - Any spotted?

Heading out south of Edson on Monday, wondering if it has greened up enough to see any black bears out feeding yet.

I know grizzlies have been spotted in those areas already.

Thanks
Tony

Saw a Grizzly this past Saturday along highway 16 west of Edson about 70 Klms. Didn't see any black bears.

Near the summit of Obed? I've seen him there quite a few times.

Not far from there, just a ways east of the summit. He is a gorgeous bear, real dark chocolate brown, perfect shiny hide. Really a beautiful bear.

That sounds like the one I have seen in the area. Nice specimen for sure.

Default No Luck

Sow Grizzly and cubs at turn going to Cadomin. Never seen so many Robins on the gravel. They were in groups by the 100’s.

Going to try again in a couple of weeks.

Thanks

I am heading home tonight to grab my rifle and pack and then come back Friday morning. I will be driving out and about for a few days after work for the next few weeks and maybe just maybe I'll have a bear hide in my hotel freezer lol.

Default Swan Hills

My youngest son spent the day in Swan Hills yesterday.

Still a bit early there as the area still hasn’t greened up yet. Seen lots of deer and even a few elk.

Roads were dry.

Thanks
Tony

Default bear

Bear hunted for 3 days. We only seen one medium sized bear north of Edson. Still winter in high country, lots of areas with 2 ft of snow. Not much grass yet.

Sounds about right - this time last year we were out there in the first week of June, and things were just starting to get green.

Cool that he spotted elk there!

Bears are out all over the place now. Typical, May long you see tons just driving around. Feeding heavy on Dandelions and new green clover, grass etc. Almost no snow left, even way up north. Hope you guys get some gooders.

I went out yesterday for a spot and stalk evening in 522. Found 3, all on top of poplar trees feeding on leaves. All good size teddies. Not a single one on the ground and no sign, lol. So watch your head! Haha.

For perspective:

Those are some great pictures. I have seen them up trees eating new leaves but those guys are going for a meal with a view. Good spotting.

View for sure! That one climbed up while I was taking in the view (accompanied by sounds of birds, frogs and other critters) and waiting for him to come out - I heard him down on the ground - but he decided to go up instead, lol. And he was a shooter. I waited for about 40 minutes for him to come down and left just after 10 (sunset was at 10:09, I believe). I wanted the meat too, so maybe next time. He was also maybe a tad old for meat bear, not sure; would make a nice rug though.

At the bottom, right in front of that spruce in the picture, there is a good water source (a deep little swamp almost; edit: I should have said pond, not swamp) and this time of year a good bear would often take possession of such a spot and munch on those top leaves: they are full of nutrients and sugar this time of year. Moose will break the young poplar shoots as well to reach what they can. I love the smell myself, lol. I heard of people soaking poplar buds in alcohol for some time (weeks or months? No idea) to make some supposedly tasty and “healthy” (can’t say I believe that part, more like people will do anything to make cheap alcohol taste better and explanation to consume it, but who knows) “beverage”, lol. Haven’t tried anything like that myself.
