Default float the bow

Was thinking about floating the bow this weekend. Anyone know if I am being out to lunch or if the rivers clear all the way and there's a half chance of catching anything other than a cold hahaha

Cheers

Yes, I for one think your off your rocker. Wait until the ice is off.

Over the years I have seen a few people attempt to float it in winter. A few have done it and survived. Some have floated it and altough they may have been able to fish in the middle of winter, It was their last trip. If you fall in the river it will likely be the last time you do. So if you do float it be sure and say your goodbye's to everyone first.

Also there is no need to float it. Most of the fish are in deeper holes and not spread out like they are in the summer. If you find one fish there are usually more there. If you know the river find a deep pool and dredge it with nymphs and heavy streamers.. Its dangerous enough wading and walking the bow in the winter.

Where you want to float? Least amount of ice seen in 40+ years this year

If you're good on the oars. You're fine from glenmore to police.

It can actually be a lot of fun to float glenmore-fish, or fish-police if you know the holes. Just use the boat by means of transportation. Short float, but pull out at every hole. The take out at police can be iffy, which is why being good on the oars is key. Glenmore-Fish is what i'd be floating. I dont know if the fish creek boat launch is even open to pull a drift boat out, if thats what you're floating with.

However if you just have rafts/pontoons, you can drop in anywhere and pull out anywhere if you've got some specific stretches you're interested in fishing.

Yeah I do have a drift boat so that's what I'd be going in. didn't even think of the take out at fish creek being closed lol. Has anyone seen the takeout at policemans lately?

Pretty sure Fish Cr launch is closed. Saw a guy pull his jet boat out over the ice at Police a month ago. There was ice covering the shallow area between the truck and river. He skidded the boat over the ice to the trailer. You need to go check out conditions before trying it now

Ooh... I never thought of the the launch area being a total skating rink....

I would go survey your boat launches and make a plan before picking a day to do it.
