We get Monday off - we work with a provincial government office, so when they are closed, we are closed.

I believe it's a stat only if you work Boxing Day. At least that's what my company says, I'm hourly so I take them both.

People that look after our children are the most under paid, unappreciated workers in our country. It's a shame because most love what they do and we are lucky to have them. My wife gave that up years ago, and now is teaching. It's a bit better gig. (Sorry derail.) Monday for us.

You should be paying them OT for the monday, it's right before christmas people could use the money. not an extra day off.

giving a day off in Leu pretty much turns November 11th into any other holiday. Some companies will give their employees time off between Christmas and New Years instead of Nov 11th.
Defeats the purpose of the day off. But oh well thats how society is nowadays.

The more CANADA becomes a multi-cultural society, the less our Holidays mean. On that note I'd like to wish everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR, GOD BLESS..

That's why the Legion campaigns to make it a regular day. Make the service special.

I assume all of you that are off are going to one.

school board gives it off to the teachers and students as "teacher's day in lieu" but us lowly support staff have to work.

IMO the service is special as it is, regardless
The Building Trades have it in their agreements as a stat to encourage the contractors to give the day off so their members can go to a Remembrance Day service or remember in their own wayand pay double time if they choose not to.

I'd agree with you Cat. The Legion doesn't want it a stat because at that point it's a Holliday. It turns into November long weekend and people are less likely to attend a service.

I'll be leaving work for an hour to take in the service. I'm working all week or I'd be in services at the local schools.

Has taken a big bite out of my hunting time since I joined the Legion but it's worth it.

Personally speaking, I have never agreed with moving a Stat like Remembrance day into the work week if i9t falls on a weekend.
As it works, the following regulkar work week day is observed as the Stat because basically the member is missing the double time on the Saturday or Sunday because they are paid at overtime rates anyway.
I would be more inclined to have the paid overtime pyramided on a weekend.
If the day falls within the week then that day is paid at the applicable overtime rate- I never worked it anyway.

It seems like with days like Remembrance Day and Labour Day the focus has changed from the day off to focusing on the double time rate, which is sad.

We work Saturday's at this time of year so I am closing that day. If it falls mid-week I will always still close the day of it as well. I will always pay my guys for the day weather it falls on a work day or not. Good employees are tough to find so I will always make sure I take care of them properly.
