Anyone use a sled to haul gear?
Hey fellas.
I am on the market for a sled, going to be hauling carcasses and bait on it.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a half decent cheap one that will last a couple months of heavy use?
Thanks!

Do a search on "pulks". You can make one pretty cheaply out of one of those orange sleds.
"Borrow" a harness with a d-ring from work or rig something up some sort of waist belt to pull it. Ski-jorring equipment works well to.
>edit< Here's the first one that popped up.....I never watched it but there are tons of options:

Are you pulling it by hand? I've got a medium otter I pulled lots with a snowmobile my first season trapping because there was too much snow for the truck.
I hauled literally tons of bait with it. The top corners blew out of it fairly quickly from the flexing under heavy load. I continued to use it and there was no further damage. It's much more flexible now with the corners broke out.
One day I'd like to build one out of sheet uhmw such as they use in Alaska.

That style sled is perfect, cant have those tube for support though. It's really thick brush.
I'll keep you tubing and see if I can't find something to suit my needs.
Thanks!

Yeah I'm pulling it by hand, the spot I'm setting up my wolf baits can't be accessed by atv or snowmobile. . Tork pointed out I can't bring in enough bait in my pack so I need a sled. Don't need anything too fancy, just need to be able to carry 100 pounds minimum. Might buy two and have the dog haul one in as well with his mushing setup.

Well I hope you shoot many wolves in all their colour variations. If you're willing to haul the bait in on your back you deserve it.

sled
I have bought some calf sleds at my local U F A over the years, I find they work well for pulling by hand around the farm. I built a steel hitch on to a few of them to use them behind my snowmobile on the line, the bigger sleds work very well that way too.

Come in two sizes, work well, good value for the money.

I have been using a sled made by Pelican 48" long bought it at C.T. It works good in shallow snow or on trails but in deep snow it wants to tip over. I think the flat bottom is the problem if you could find one with a more rounded bottom I think it would work better in cross country tough going.

Check out the skimmer that Costco has. I think it's about the best price around.
