Did u guys even take the survey(s)? Same point crossed my mind before reading this post. Strange survey lacking in choices so I used the comments to explain this back...if they are read....

If u want to see a province doing a good job just visit the Manitoba parkland.

....mmmmm cake....

As to keeping fish, my opinion is usually not a popular one: if you want to catch and release some stocked fish and maybe take 1 home for a treat, that's fine but my tax dollars should not go towards feeding your family. If you want enough fish for that, go buy some at the supermarket and leave me and my tax dollars out of your grocery budget, fishing is a hobby not a way to "save" money on food. Less fish kept = less stocked to maintain fish numbers and angler success as well as increasing opportunities for trophy fish plus the cost of the entire program goes down which opens up additional opportunities to stock even more lakes for all to enjoy. My opinion max 1 fish limit or C&R from stocked waters period.
So it is ok for tax dollars to go to supporting people that are into catch and release, but not ok for people that want to catch and keep?

Can we stock a walleye fishery in Alberta please? I have heard that people like to eat them in some of the provinces east of us!

You should check the fish stocking list millions of Walleye are stocked & raised in AB...Just to hard for some to realise if you keep them all,you get sfall in return to the fishery

Default And error was made

Folks,

From two sources below I got emails saying - whoops we made a mistake.

The first copy is from ESRD in Rocky Mtn. Hse.

The second from Jim Wagner

You will see in the Beaver Lake and Ironside Pond surveys, a reference to 1 over 50 cm in the preamble (which I hadn’t noticed), which was included in the wording by mistake and is not a proposed regulation for those lakes as you will see lower down in the survey. Make sure you and those you may have forwarded the link to are aware that both Beaver and Ironside will remain as C&R lakes.

-Rocky

Will sorry for the confusion but there is no intent to change the regulation at existing “Quality Stocked Fisheries” and those with a 0 limit for trout will remain in effect. This was a cut-and paste error that I failed to catch in my review of the surveys. We will be looking to change the regulation at “Harvest” lakes from 5 no size limit to 1 over 50 cm.

Default Yea old divide and conquer

And successfully the anglers have yet again turned on themselves. The Govt just loves this type of thing. Rather than turning the heat on the people who can effect fisheries in Alberta, we beat on each other and in the process absolutely nothing changes.
I used to belong to F&G and finally in disgust quit after watching them time after time get tangled up in their internal political debates framed as - "why should you get this and I don't get that".
Any change in Alberta's fishery should never be framed as "well, when is it my turn". Why can't we support each other in advancing our sport.

LOL. Sad but true.

If we're going to have Tiger Trout, I'd prefer for them to develop to a large, aggressive size. Much more fun. To do that will require careful monitoring of those who ignore basic fish identification and provincial regulations.
