Default SOFTTTT bite on Calling Lake

January Blues have hit.

7 bites on Saturday evening at Calling Lake. Some so soft that you only knew they had the hook was when you lifted to jig, and they dropped it.

Very frustrating. Not watching, not fishing with a camera, so caught off guard a number of times.

Hits were on a gold Kastmaster in 12 FOW. Usually a pretty deadly set up for walleye and ling, just not taking it enough, and not aggressively enough, to get hooked.

BUT they are there ....

Make a tiny investment in a couple spring bobbers for your rods. You can detect the softest of bites without ever loading up the road and they will never feel you coming!!! You would catch all those tight lipped buggers then I bet! Good luck!

I use a modified Marmish indicator set-up on my perch rod and I can adjust the sensitivity depending on lure weight.

Don't use one for walleye as I usally hold the line with my finger. If I did it would be like this:http://www.actiontackleproducts.com/abi.html. Or make the same thing outta 16 Ga piano wire.

Yesterday i couldnt get walleyes to take anything a showed them including a jig head and small minnow.

I switched to a new slab rap and fished it very aggressive ripping it up and down about 3 feet each way. Once i marked fish on the flasher i toned it down to about a 6" twitch. Those fish were hitting it so hard that they were almost ripping the rod out of my hand.

My dead stick beside me caught one fish the whole time and the aggressive bait caught 6 or 7 before that school moved on and we ended up packing up for the night

I use just the minnow head or tail, that way they have no choice but to bite the treble, even on a soft bite

Get yourself a tickle stick or snitch with a built in strike indicator. They are awesome.
