Default Cadomin / Cardinal Divide Camping and Fishing

Hi,

I'm thinking about heading out to Cadomin next week as a interim stop on my way to Penticton. I would like to spend an afternoon hiking and fishing and likely just do some random camping. I haven't yet been to this area and just had a few questions.

Can I get to Cardinal River / Divide in a vehicle? Furthermore I'm thinking about taking a Honda Fit for the fuel economy on the rest of the trip, is the road decent enough to Cardinal Divide? I understand the road gets pretty bad and all together washed out at some point, but just not sure where. Alternatively I can take the 4Runner, but would prefer the fuel saving of the Fit.

Any recommendations for rivers to fish? It sounds like Cardinal River has a healthy amount of Trout. Also, I don't mind hiking a few hours around the area to get to a better producing river.

Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions.

Hi ehrgeiz

I was just at the divide on July 11 and you should be ok with either

road closed further on as the bridge was gone in the flats

the road is also washed out now about 2 miles or so (bypass for 4x4/quad)

on the fishing Mary Gregg Lake is a nice walk in (bear spray)

If you go down the PR road at km 99 is Muskiki ..can shore fish(nice Cutthroats)

Fairfax Lake down 40#..then just before Brazeau river take the Cardinal Divide road just drive slow and you will be ok

Pit Lakes on Coal Valley lease (nice Rainbow/Browns/Brook)

lots of creeks and rivers I haven't fished in years

Have fun .. be bear smart when camping/fishing
