Default Hike in lakes trip (photos)

Hi everyone!

Just sharing some pictures from last weekend. Chester Lake and Elbow Lake. Both were fishing pretty good.

Lots of gear

This pattern is what they were mostly taking

This brook trout had a little yellow patch on this cheek (didn't look like disease just a marking)

find the pika!

Looks like a great time! How is the hike into elbow lake. I read it is just over a km, but steep. Im looking to bring along a 5 year old. Thoughts?

Hi Shawn

It is about 1.2km. It isn't too bad, steep but if I can do it most people probably can haha (I'm lazy). Should be just fine for a 5 year old! Just take breaks as needed. Saw lots of kids up there and even one little guy who didn't look to be older then 3.

Can't beat those Brookies. They are so spectacular looking. Cutties aren't too far off either.

Nice cutties and brookies, and of course the scenery alone makes it worth it :-) You look like a pack mule with all that gear though...haha

Totally! Float tubes aren't too heavy though. Worth it!

Very nice pictures
Is there a fee to park or use the hiking trails for fishing?
Just trying to plan for August.

Depends on which trails. Chester and Elbow are in a PROVINCIAL park. No fee other than your WIN and license.
http://www.albertaparks.ca/kananaski...l-reports.aspx

Anything in the NATIONAL PARKS (Banff, Waterton, Japer, Yoho etc…) requires a parks license for entry, and a National Parks fishing license.

Yeah lots of hike in lakes in the provincial parks! Just a regular fishing license is all you need. The Alberta Fishing Guide magazine should have plenty of info on them. I've only been to Chester, elbow and picklejar.

I would say it's totally worth bringing a float tube up. On a nice day many of these lakes can get crowded along the shoreline. Plus casting can be challenging. We didn't bring them to elbow though, you can easily wade most of the lake around the edges and that's where the brookies hold.
