Now that the Co-Op's and Sobeys sell made in store fresh sausage you could probably buy some casings from them. I bought some quite a while ago from Big Bend in Red Deer but you have to go to the North outlet. He also sold me some curing salt. Not sure if they still do it but a phone call would tell.

The sawdust I don't think you can get in RD but Halfords has it, probably CTR in Calgary, and if you are in a real bind I have a few big bags. If you are around Caroline or close it would work.

I don't know about anyone in Red Deer, but Halford's does mail order and does it quickly. They have all sorts of "good stuff".

Big Bend Meats will sell you casing out of the north store.

You can buy chips at peavey mart.

Co-op does sell casings, as far as smoke chips it depends how big of bags you want. Peavy Mart, Can Tire, UFA, Wolverine and Sportsmens den do carry the small bags.

Thanks guys, I'm actually looking for the saw dust. Built a cold smoker I'm dying to try and think it will work better with saw dust. Gonna try Big Bend .

I've got three of the big bags from Halfords here. Two are Frantz hardwood sawdust and one is Frantz hickory sawdust. Welcome to a bag. I think they are 18 kg. bags.

GRizz here's what I do, I never buy sawdust anymore. Get a cast iron Dutch oven with a lid, put it on an electric burner (a rheostat would be a good refinement) leave the lid open a crack and let 'er rip. As long as the lid is on with a crack to let smoke out it won't flare up. I use fist size pieces of wood, you choose the kind but oak is my choice as it's available and cheap. If you can't find a Dutch oven a piece of pipe or anything really would work, cast frying pan with a piece of sheet metal?
