Boycott ING / Tangerine
They pulled their loan support for the Dakota pipeline. It is unacceptable that a bank is anti oil.
Plus I know two people who accounts were hacked recently. Rather than engage in misplaced environmental activism they should concentrate on account security.

No way. They are great. The only bank that's great.

So you want us to boycott ING and Tangerine? Two different companies. One, both?
How about TD, they will try to sell you stuff. RBC, CIBC? BofM, heck they are from Quebec.
Screw it, boycott them all, stuff it in the mattress.

This is where people lose me... Where do they disagree with the pipeline? ING is invested in oil projects worldwide. One pipeline isn't going to change that.
They were faced with a choice, keep on keeping on (positively influence the project) or cut bait and run. Kind of like a friend of mine, married to a nagging wife for 25 years. At some point you have to wonder if it's really worth it.

Good point. Tangerine belongs to Scotia Bank now anyways.

Nothing like telling people to boycott ING a bank that doesn't exist in Canada anymore. While Tangerine hasn't been owned by ING for 5 years.

Yup, since before they changed their name to Tangerine they have been owned by Scotia Bank.

Their own documentation confirms they dropped out for "ethical" and PR reasons. So completely justified for people to boycott them as well (the company that made the decision, not a spin-off). They need to learn that capitulation to interest groups can have negative consequences for them too. They have decided they want "green" money and customers and it's worth it in their view to P off others. No union or energy company should do business with them.

I had an account with ING a decade back, makes me wish I still had it so that I could close it now and let them know why.

That's probably not a bad idea - just as safe (perhaps more), no fees, ....
I mean what service does a bank really provide anyways.....you get essentially zero interest on you account holdings.
Banks are middle men in transactions - convenience of electronic transactions is their only service. Use cash and the bank is a useless middle man.
