Rates in gp and Dawson will be higher then fort mac. For structural you would be looking 20-25 less then a b pressure.

No not gods gift , just put money away when times were good and didn't blow it all like most rig welders that are now cutting there rates to get work. Guys that are willing to cut rate by that much are affecting guys like me that dont need to cut the rate, seen it to many times a guy shows up and works for 20$ hr less and when it slows guess who's working the scab.

Its $85 around rocky for pipeline and facilities rig welders
Up to $95. Not seen higher exept union around here for at lease two years.
No one here hires non b pressure rig welders
Why would you when pipe guys can weld square
But square ain't quilfied to weld round.

Seems to be the trend out there, companies will only hire if you have a B ticket and Cwb ticket , cheaper to have a rig that can do it all .

Have you ever heard of the free market?

Sc-a-b: a scab is referred to a person who crosses a picket line, in the event of a legal strike. Or Lockout. To perform the legally striking persons duties.

If you don't think you need to cut rates to match the market (no matter how good you may or may not be), you're in the wrong industry. Remember, there are hundreds of great welders who are relaxing in the downtime over the past year.

Depends on the type of work. Rig chasing is 85-95 only. In nisku savannah drilling was only paying 65 in the yard!

The $110/ hr was for an operator with 35 years experience with his own truck and supplies, repaired broken webbing on on of my lowbeds. He has welded around the world on boilers, pipeline work and any kind of fabrication from river boats to pump jacks. So a fairly qualified guy..... but what would I know?

Just a heads up, you aren't the only ones with a rate cut... Typical welder whining.

years of apprentice hours, in school for two months at a crack, cost of a rig set up, fuel, and business licenses WBC rates and insurance are all costs incurred.
If ANYONE thinks that a ticketed rig welder who has to supply everything is only worth what a journeyman shop welder is when all their equipment is supplied ,they are on glue.

So much angry and people are pretty envious it seems. Not a welder here and never will be. It's a crap job. But anyone that says it doesn't take talent doesn't deserve to comment. You don't have a clue so take your ball and go home. Also the life of a welder is terrible, away from home for weeks/months, crap camps, crap food, crap engineering and fitting into tiny areas for extended periods. Not to mention the fumes and shorter life expectancy. So if your running a tooled up truck and supplying your own gear then you deserve $100 an hour, after expenses and sacrifices it's really not that lucrative.
And if you ever find yourself envious of some one it's time to self check. Maybe that person is who you want to be. Change your life instead of being angry.

And for JustMe. Should we all drop down to 3rd wages to compete? Because it's actually a pretty tough shovel out there in the real world right now with our current wages. It's not easy for a young family to make ends meet. Once you think about college costs, dental and anything future related.

Just to clarify, these are rates for a welder WITH A WELDING TRUCK WITH ALL THE CONSUMABLES. They have to run a generator all day, they have to provide all the welding gas, the rod (or wire), etc, and pay insurance and fuel on that thing. It isn't cheap.

This isn't just a person showing up and using someone else's equipment to weld.

Lots of people in here are about to be butt-hurt.....

QC guys that contract, $70+ an hour, no consumables, no equipment other than PPE, some times you gotta supply a truck and laptop that you also charge extra for (pipeline mostly, in plants or mod yards they have computers for you to use). Go look at welds, do paperwork, sit on the internets. $70 is LOW $85-95/hr is about right. Lots of QC guys are pipefitters/welders, probably some of those same guys that used to run their own rigs.

Been a HD mechanic for 15 years and have done extensive welding in my time. I've always said that I'm not a welder but I can fake it pretty good. Any comments on here about the lack of talent or skill in welding have never welded anything more than there grandmas old kitchen chair. My brother in law is a welder and I seen him in action with the stick. Pretty tough to keep up with his welding.
