Default 30-06 re-bore?

I'm thinking of using my ol' .30-06 Rem 760 pump as a donor to build a truck/bush/moose/deer gun and give the ol girl a makeover?
Thinking .338-06 or maybe .35Whelen?
Who in AB does this kind of work?
Looking to get bored and reamed, shortened from 22" to carbine length/crowned(yea I know not optimum barrel length for these chamberings, but I don't care),cerakoted, and probably a Boyd's laminate stock?
Is my .30-06 donor barrel useable or will I need to order a new blank?
If I need to go with new barrel,I might just go opposite direction and build a rediculous barrel burner .22-06,lol.....seriously though....or maybe 6mm-06?

Ron Smith can do the work.

Why not buy a 760 in .35 Whelen?

I think Ron Smith is about the only one around that does rebores,he did a win88 from 308 to 358 for me. I was going to do the same as you a few years back,I was thinking a switch barrel 270win & 35 whelen .

I don't really want or need another 760 nor even a .35Whelen.I have a couple newer/higher end bolt rifles that are my go-to's these days for serious work, just looking to repurpose/something fun to do with my ol'ought-six,can't sell it,too much sentimental value after 32 years of filling freezers.😜

I like the way you think, lol👍
I was actually leaning towards the .338-06 vs the .35Whelen anyhow.
The MV and downrange energy of both cartridges is near identical with 250gr bullets,,but I'm thinking better BCs and wider range of weights and bullet selection gives the .338 the edge with a lot more reloading options and better terminal performance downrange.
It's purpose of use will be a bush gun where I'd expect most shot opps to be well within 100y,but if I do need to stretch one out there down a cutline or wutever the .338 with the much better BCs will have more legs with any given bullet weight.

I went through the same process. My 338-06 will be leaving Cooper Firearms very soon...Whelen does have a cool name though.

338-06 gets my vote...I love mine in the AI version.

225gr ABs or TTSXs shoot great.
