Default Are you Aging Gracefully?

Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, surely I can't look that old..

Well, you might want to read this account of someone who thought like that...

My name is Mary, and I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist.

I noticed his dds diploma on the wall, which bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered a tall, handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 30-odd years ago.

Could he be the same guy that I had a secret crush on, way back then?

Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought.

This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate.

After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended Morgan Park high school .

Yes….yes, I did. I'm a Mustang,' he gleamed with pride.

When did you graduate?' I asked.

He answered, 'in 1975. Why do you ask?'

You were in my class!', I exclaimed.

He looked at me closely.

Then that ugly,

old,

balding,

wrinkled faced,

fat-assed,

gray-haired,

decrepit old man

asked

"what did you teach?"

Ha, good one.
I'll be 55 in a few months, I do have salt'n pepper hair, lots of it still,
but people have guessed me at 45 which is good to hear.
And I'll bump into people of the same age and I know I don't look, nor feel their age.

I'm 45 and thankfully most of my co-workers assume I'm 10 years younger.
However, I feel 20 years older due to health issues.
Still... good to know I look OK!

I look younger than I actually am as well. Like brslk, most of my co-workers think I'm much younger than I am.

Which is probably one of the reasons why IncrediGirl still tolerates having me around.

Does tend to backfire though... Tried to get a business started in my early 20's, and it was hard to get people to take me seriously, especially in a trade dominated by older, grayer men.

Smile Ageing with dignity

That is what I pray for. Just to die when in good health. The boys over 50 will know exactly what I mean. I bought the first dog so that I'd get exercise, now the hobby has gotten out of hand. One of the "girls" is sitting between my legs looking up at me want to got for the "walk" if it weren't for her I'm sure that I wouldn't go but we'll get out there with the other 3 and put on a few miles.

I have lost 25 lbs since Sept. 1 and need to keep it off.

As my great grandmother said "there is nothing wrong with getting old, if you thinks of the alternative!"

I was at the hospital and noticed my friends mother coming out of a room. I was going to say hello using her first name but something told me to stop. I stood there looking stupid as she gave me a strange look and left. At last I put it together that was not the mom but the daughter who I went to school with and have not seen for forty years. Some times it's best to be quiet.

Oh hell have!
At 40 I felt like I had the world by the balls.
Half way through 43 and I'm facing major shoulder reconstruction possibly this February after being inches from deaths door this past July.
May will mark 8 years of a contentious separation/ divorce but that should be the end of it...
I've spent 41 of 43 years using a wheelchair for the most parts of my day.

I have a 13 year old and an 8 year old.

So ya, feeling old this past year.

Thankful my girlfriend keeps me feeling young. And I am, compared to her youthful 52.

Keep your chin up boys. Life is good.

I often catch myself mentioning some old guy i know in conversations with someone. Then i realize wait a minute im older than he is.

I look young for my age if being 69 and looking 60 means much lol.

Doc says i look way better in real than i do in his paper work.

Not sure that answers OP's question. But seems like its going sorta graceful.

Aging as gracefully as most dairy products.

I can't go a year and a half without my eyes changing enough to require new glasses(both up close and far)

All the old injuries from my younger years are catching up with me.

My left bicep will need attention soon.
I've got disc issues in my low back, from a couple incidents in my younger years, which of course a guy never even tried to get rehab for.

My hair line has migrated south too.

At least my teeth are my own!

Graceful as it ever could be.

Gracefully enough, hair...gone, beard...white, teeth...mine, wife...younger.

I can still climb a tree to set up a stand and I can still shoot a bow and I can still drag a deer.

Life is good!

I'm really old, I smell like decaying fart and dried pee. Don't know what I look like I went blind on my 100th birthday. I miss my teeth...

I am 31 BUT my brother who is 25, who drinks 2 litres of pop a day and who smokes looks like he is closer to 40.
So no matter how I age down the road I will still look younger then him.

Smile Because nice matters.

Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes all the way to the bone.

Maybe the more important question is whether a person has become a better human being as he matures, not if the girls still look his way.

Old is 15 years + older that you are.
When you're 15, 30 seems ancient.
When you're 30, 45 seems 'old'
When you're 45, 60 seems so far away.
- you get the idea.

My Dad is 85, and talks about "The old guy next door, celebrating his 100th birthday" !

I like looking my age. I've earned all those scars & wrinkles.
Age adds 'character', and girls like character. Ask Sam Elliot !

Now as far as acting my age, that's a different matter....

My chronic back went out a couple days ago and pain and walking funny is finally subsiding. Like Dick, I'm paying for all that fun from the past. Heck, I can't even drag a deer down hill anymore and climbing trees was history 20 years ago. Nevertheless life is good. Freezer has been filled since Oct and never had to freeze my rump off this year. Looking my age means I'm an old
guy but what can one do about it. Merry Christmas to you all!!!

Yeah, I sometimes get a "What the heck? Who is that?" moment when looking into the mirror. I feel younger than I look. I once said to my wife that I thought the guy who played Dr. House in House M.D. looked a tiny bit older than me. She started laughing.

Most people guess me to be in my late 40's but I clearly remember the day president Kennedy was shot. It seems that I catch myself calling people 45 or younger as kids.

What I find confusing is that my 36 year old son has grey hair and I don't have any grey hair. I still have a full head of hair too. I was thinking of letting my hair grow long again and getting a 80's rocker perm so it would make for more interesting conversation with my grey haired buddies at the next re-union.

Although my health and vigor is declining I am still able to go for a good 5 mile hike/hunt in the hills and valleys. Still have more stamina than some younger guys. I can still spot an animal a 1/2 mile away too.

The only thing that scares me is that recently a friend asked if I was getting any on the side. I was embarrassed because I didn't even know that the women had moved it.

A touch of good news for those diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in later life. Apparently Metformin (med) helps to slow down the aging process.
