Good call on the twilight factor idea JD.

I got a chance to check out some optics that fit into that category.

I like it. 26 nosler. I would of preferred the Christensen mesa at the time.

Dam that thing is a real beast. I dont care for the 6.5 creedmoor because the lighter bullets at slow speeds really dont impress me on the energy numbers, but the BC of the 140+ bullets is great and with more speed, like 26 nosler, it would be a real win.

I really like it. I’ve only shot a coyote with it but loaned it to a old timer the other day. He didn’t have the confidence in his 338. I figured the elk was at about 600. Told him where to put the cross hairs. When he sent it it was a bang flop. 563 yards bullet was stuck in the offside hide.

I like speed and horse power. This 26 nosler seems to have it.

I’m looking forward to doing some range time for sure.

They sent me the load data today, as soon as I verify the speed they are going to burn the turret, it’s included in the package

168gr Berger @ just over 3000fps, should make a sweet load.

I have thought for a long time that 7mm Rem Mag was the one cartridge i would go to other than 308, but 26 nosler i think is actually superior for long range stuff.

I doubt the 26 can compete withe a 195 extreme out of a 28 Nosler.

The guys that know more than me say the 2 top long range hunting cartridges are the 300rum and the 28 Nosler. 6.5’s are nice but 7’s make better longe range hunting rifles imo.

Yea but i would prefer a rifle without a muzzle brake. So a really fast 26 with the best 6.5 bullets beats every bc in 7mm under 175gr, and all in a package that could be tolerable without a brake. If you want to use a brake, theres plenty bigger better long range bullets above 30 cal.

A 7mm rem mag will have about the same energy @ 600yds as the 26 Nosler @ 500yds, I’m pretty sure you could hand a 7mm rem mag.

What's that 7mm got for energy @ 600?

I don't think you could go wrong with the 26 or 28 nosler. My gun came with a brake but I don't use it for hunting. I find the recoil less then my 30-06. It is a very pleasant gun to shoot.

It’s got about 1800ft/lbs @ 600yds.

The 28 Nosler isn’t that bad to shoot with or without the break, especially if your just using a break for the bench and no break hunting. The 7mm rem mag is way cheaper to run if you plan on shooting lots.

With the powder in the 300RUM and 28 Nosler, how fast do the barrels burn out?

My factory nosler box says 1987 ft/lb @ 600. Might be over exaggerated but betting it's close.

Hard to say, 1500 average maybe? They have a bigger bore than the 26 so I imagine barrel life is better on the 28, 300rum, and 7 Rem. No magnum is going to give you good barrel life imo.

I punched the load data into the ballistic calculator for both.

I was told 1500. I was not told how much accuracy loss there would be though. As a hunting rifle I’m not sure it would noticeable. I don’t know.

Curious what numbers you’re using? I’m hoping to get 3300 + with 142 lrab’s.

That's what good times are all about.

👍

Both rifles rock,,, personal opinion. Kurt choses his irons,,, NW has a awesome looking rifle as well.

Very humbling for both of them to take the time to share with all of us on the AO Forum.
I'd post my go too unit,,, but I canceled my photo-buket.

It's in its own class.

The the old dude said,,, "what's not to like about all things shinny & new." LOL

No, 3400 with 129 ablr

If I run 3000fps with a 175gr ablr in the 7mm and 3300 with the 142gr the 7mm has 1868ft/lb @ 600yds and the 26 Nosler has 1834ft/lb, pretty close imo, they run pretty close all the way out to 1000 with the 7mm a little ahead the whole way out.

*Thats using 63gr of powder in the 7mm and 89gr of powder in the 26 Nosler, the 7mm looks a lot better when you look at it that way. It’s about 2600gr diffence with only 100 bullets.

I replaced my first 7mmstw barrel at around 1500 rounds. Accuracy went from 1/2moa to around moa, with the odd flier that opened things up a bit more.

Thank you. They are both very capable. I didn't like the 7 I had because of the recoil. The 26 is more expensive to shoot I don't doubt. The sales guy I talked to about mine said I should figure in another $ 0.50 -$0.75 a round for barrel replacement. I'm unsure what the 7mm rm might be.

They didn’t have a 4Wi in stock so I went with the 4WXi, I don’t need the moa subtentions but I wanted the illumination because I find Swarovski reticles fairly fine and hard to see without illumination. The rings come with a built in level too.

What kind of 7 did you have? No break and stock design make up a lot of the recoil you didn’t like I’d bet. I think the 89gr of powder might make them feel the same in the same rifles.

Bought a prohunter years ago. Nice to pack and liked the accuracy but she was a little sharp on the back end. Thought the flex tech stock would work. Seemed to with the 375 barrel but that 7mm and 300wm were almost ignorant.

Thompson Center? I had one in 300win and a 280 barrel, can’t remember if it was rem or ai, but I killed a coyote at 738yds with that rifle.
