Default advice for decent 22-250 factory loads and gr suggestions

Hello everyone, I am seeking some advice on factory loads for 22-250 ammo as I am anxious to try out my new purchase from a fellow AO member (can`t wait til this rifle arrives next week!) Anyways I purchased a Savage 22-250 bolt action model 12 heavy barrel, comes with a Tasco varmint scope 6x24x50. After a lot of shopping around and reading up about a good all around coyote/wolf/long range target gun I went with this choice. So my question(s) are what would be the best all around factory ammo to buy for coyotes, wolves and target shooting as I am not into reloading (not yet anyways) and what would you recommend for gr and manufacture. Just curious to hear what the veterans on here have to suggest. Thanks everyone and Happy Friday!

Do you know the twist rate of the barrel?....that will dictate what the recommendations should be.

Whatever your gun shoots the best, I got lucky with my sako it loves the winchester usa cheapo 45g hp, they work quite well shot two yesterday they dropped where they stood like usual.

Yeah which ever your gun perfers. My 22-250 remington 700 hates the cheapo remington white box in 45 gr. It is a tack driver with the Hornady V-Max 55 gr. though. Buy a couple different brands in different weights and see which one groups best.

Default 12 twist

but I think they also did or do a 9 twist in 22-250 which is rare. Most are 12 or 14 twist meanting with slow twist they wil favor light varmint bullets over heavy (60 grains and up). Mine also favor slower velocity (3450) over fast velocity (3900) fps.
Look to find optimum results in the 50 grain area. I have a 12 twist that shoots both 50 and 55 grain bullets very well. Cant help you with factory load recommendations because I reload but a cheap starting point that shoots very well in many 22-250's are the white box winchesters in 45 or 50 grain and the blue box federals in 55 grain.
Both are realistically priced and if they work you are done researching.

Save the brass and send it to me or you wil find you take up reloading before long.

winchester ballistic silver tips in 55gr shoot excellent in mine and they are a very wicked bullet on yotes. Down side they are about 35 bucks a box. If you want a hunting round that kills em great and little fur damage I highly suggest these. For target shooting cheaper the better

I have a 700 heavy barrel and it loves the rem white box, wont shoot the winchester cheapies. Funny how no 2 are alike.

45gr Winchester Varmint packs would be the cheapest....about $37 for box of 40...White box.

I reload BST's in mine.

I am not sure as of yet but looking on Savage website it is either a 12 or 9 twist rate. I will check when I get it in.

Talking You all are great!

Many great suggestions to start of with here, I will buy the several suggestions made here and document on paper at the range and see what is the best result and will let you all know how I make out. BIG THANK YOU to everyone`s advice!! I am assuming according to Savage`s website that the twist rate is either a 9 or a 12. Thanks again and I will keep you all posted of my results!

Default 22-250 Factory

I would try Hornady Custom 55 grain V-max or Federal Premium 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip if you can't get the bargain bulk Remington or Winchester to shoot.

I had a Remington 700 bdl in a left hand 22-250. All I ever shot in it was the Winchester 55gr psp (cheap ones in the grey box). They shot 3/8" groups consistently. I sold the gun and bought a T3. Tried the same ammo with it and it shot terrible. The only thing my T3 likes is 50gr vmax hand loads.

If your rifle likes Winchester Super-X 55gr psp you should be good to go.
I've fired about 360rds of these and the results were tight and very consistent in my rifle.

This was about 5 years ago before I started reloading. I don't know if Winchester has maintained their outstanding QC.

That's a real loss for those who don't reload.

This is true

But when I scrounge the range pails for brass nothing ticks me off more than split necks....

And for that reason he should use Hornady or Nosler custom and inform me of each time he hits the range.

Lol....it's all good. I don't need anymore brass....if you saw my bucket of brass for the .22-250 you would wonder what War I fought in and used the .22-250.....
